After the new owners took over, the quality of the food has gotten noticeably better. The Kung Pao Shrimp was amazing—fresh shrimp, great flavor, and the perfect amount of spice. This restaurant has really stepped up its game, and I highly recommend giving it a try.

This experience was absolutely unacceptable.

I used to reside in Forest Park for years, and during that time, Happy Chef was a place I ordered from often and never had issues with. Because of that history, I trusted returning after not eating here for a while. Unfortunately, that was a mistake.

On December 12, 2025, I spoke with a woman named Liz regarding placing an order for that Friday. My friend picked up the food from the Oak Park location and brought it back. We ordered two fried rice dishes—one combination and one regular.

As I was preparing my plate, I found a long strand of hair inside the rice. We immediately decided not to eat it and called the restaurant. When opening the second container, we found another long, gray strand of hair in that rice as well. Both orders were contaminated.

When we called to report the issue, Liz was extremely rude, dismissive, and combative. There was no apology, no concern, and no professionalism. We were placed on hold for over 10 minutes, treated as if we were the problem, and she refused to provide a manager or owner’s name. She insisted that nothing could be done unless we physically brought the food back.

We explained that we live over 50 minutes away and would not be returning until the following Friday. Still, there was zero empathy or effort to resolve the situation.

When we eventually returned the food, the treatment was just as poor. The person handling the situation was rude, would not even look up, and again offered no apology. We were told that $10 would be kept because we purchased a large sweet and sour sauce.

Finding multiple long strands of hair in food is a serious health concern, especially since my young daughter was eating the food. This is unsafe and unacceptable. Luckily, I inspect food carefully, but no customer should have to worry about this.

Because of the food contamination and the way we were treated, I will not be returning. I believe in fairness and accountability, so this is not ending with just a review. I will be contacting the local health department, which is the appropriate authority for addressing food safety and sanitation concerns.

I strongly recommend that anyone considering eating here carefully inspect their food. Standards have clearly changed, and not for the better.

IF I CAN GIVE -0 STARS I WOULD!!!!
I had a very disappointing experience with this restaurant, mainly due to poor food safety and even worse customer service.
I live in the southwest suburbs and am only in the city about once a week. I ordered takeout for my family, and when we got home, both large orders of fried rice had thick, long black hair in them.. very noticeable and completely unacceptable. We had to order food from somewhere else.
I called to inform management, and instead of empathy or an apology, I was met with attitude. I was told I had 24 hours to bring the food back for a refund, despite explaining that I do not live nearby. The lack of understanding and concern was extremely disappointing.
When I returned for the refund, the situation got worse. The employee at the front desk did not apologize and handled the interaction aggressively. He first put $10 on the counter, saying it was for a jar, even though my total was $26.71. When I returned both orders and asked for my refund, he then placed $22 on the counter in an aggressive manner. At no point did anyone take responsibility or show basic customer service.
I work in management, and the way this situation was handled was unacceptable. Customers deserve respect, empathy, and safe food. I will not be recommending this place and will be reporting the incident.
Food safety and customer service need serious improvement. Hair nets should be worn. Smh!! #DoBetter!!

On yesterday Saturday, January 17th, 2026. I phoned 2 orders for pickup (Lunch Special). I have ordered from them multiple times. Because there was a lack of communication. The new owner that I didn’t know at the time quoted me $43.34. I for sure thought it was a mistake. So when I went to pick up the order. I asked her why had the lunch special price had significantly higher. I really didn’t understand her reasoning. I told her I had been placing the same order with a gentleman, that when she told me that she was the new owner as of January 1st, 2026. The food was absolutely terrible. Nothing like the other owners. The entire order was immediately dumped in the trash. (43.34). The past owner was half of that amount, plus you got a free soda and egg roll. . Never Again!!! Wish I could give a o rating.

The new ownership changed the food and it’s bad!! Soup was more salt than liquid, fried rice was bland, the sweet and sour tasted like flour. After 10 years of going here, I will now look for some where new.

Went in today to get a quick bite for me and my guy, I ordered him the Orange chicken lunch special and for myself Thai fried rice with a small hunan beef, Everything was terrible!!! by far the worst Chinese/”Thai” we’ve every encountered. Literally everything was bland and chewy there is nothing at all good I can say about the food needless to say I will never ever go back!!!
