Great food with a soulful atmosphere. Everyone is friendly and the food tastes great. My favorite is the grits and sausage. My husband loves the chicken and waffles.

I’ve been a loyal customer of Hanz Diner for years, but my most recent visit under the new ownership was deeply disappointing. The quality has taken a dramatic downturn, and it’s clear that cost-cutting has replaced the care and consistency this place used to be known for.

To start, the breakfast eggs I ordered contained a large chunk of eggshell—an inexcusable oversight in even the most basic kitchen. The chicken and waffles, once one of the diner’s standout items, have also suffered. The “jumbo” wings they were known for have been replaced with wings smaller than those you’d find at WingStop, and what little meat there is gets lost under excessive breading. To make matters worse, the chicken was cooked unevenly, with parts ranging from overly browned to a concerning dark maroon. It’s obvious the kitchen either isn’t paying attention or no longer cares.

The decline in quality might be easier to stomach if the prices matched, but they don’t. For one waffle, hash browns, eight tiny wings, an orange juice, and a hot chocolate—after removing the eggs due to the shell—the total came to $26, which is absurd given the portion sizes and poor execution.

Hanz Diner used to be a reliable favorite of mine, but this new ownership has drained the charm, quality, and value out of the experience. At this point, they’re saving money while delivering a product that simply isn’t worth it. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning.

10/10! The service is exceptional. The taco was delicious and so full! The biscuits are fluffy! The French toast is impeccable! The omelettes are phenomenal! So affordable too! It was also decorated so nicely for Valentine’s Day and the music was great!

I have been to IHOP , DENNY’S , WAFFLE HOUSE , and the infamous CRACKER BARREL, and to be honest they all fall short of this this place…Han’z Diner is so good i was surprised and looked at my food twice and said “well dam” Everything was good but the chicken and waffles took me by surprise …a basic but fluffy on the inside yet toasted on the outside waffle and the wings i got them spicy and the were blazing hot right out the fryer.. this is my number 1 go to spot from now on to get breakfast …i dont care if i have to drive far to get it…its worth it

Probably the best chicken wings and waffles I can get without driving 50 miles to Houston to one of those overpriced brunch spots.

Wings actually had flavor and seasoning and good portion size, waffle was perfect, i asked for powdered sugar on mine, which makes all the difference for me.

Definitely the best chicken and waffles in Conroe and Woodlands area.

Parking lot a bit sketchy. Insanely good breakfast skillet, I give it my highest honor. Big portions. Also the best salsa I have ever had in my entire life. Waiter was top tier and knew when my water was empty from across the whole restaurant and instantly brought another every time, without asking, within a minute. Food came out in 8 minutes. I was blown away. Absolutely worth stopping.

Love that they serve breakfast all day . Customer service on point . The size of the fruit salad was small compared to the price . I will be back to try another dish . When o first walked in I didn’t really enjoy the smell, but then I gave it a chance because it’s a “diner” . Food was worthwhile .

Stepping into Hanz Diner, I was immediately struck by the absence of a greeter, leaving my friend and me to navigate a self-seating situation. This set the tone for what became a consistently underwhelming service experience. Menus eventually arrived after a significant wait, delivered by one person, with another later taking our order. While the kitchen was quick, churning out food in ten minutes, this efficiency didn’t extend to the dining room.

My hashbrowns, unfortunately, carried a distinct flavor that was far from appealing to my palate. A major pain point throughout the meal was the complete lack of drink service; I repeatedly had to leave my table and seek out staff at the counter just to get refills for myself and my friend.

My friend’s shrimp and grits order was another misstep. Despite specifically requesting no bacon, the dish arrived with it. Their solution? Not a remake, but a disheartening attempt to simply pick off the bacon. To add insult to injury, he found the “creole” seasoning to be excessively salty, rendering the dish almost inedible.

It felt like a free-for-all, with staff seemingly doing “whatever” and no dedicated server attending our table. I was constantly on my feet, chasing down assistance for even basic requests. While I was told this is a family-owned establishment with all family members working there, it felt less like a cohesive team and more like a group lacking basic customer service skills and professionalism.

This place desperately needs a significant overhaul in its front-of-house operations, starting with proper staffing and training in hospitality. I believe they could improve, but based on this experience, it’s not a place I’ll be revisiting.
