We had an awesome time at Hank’s! We were out enjoying the amazing weather and chose to stop there for a drink and light fare. We had the pleasure of meeting the regional manager and sharing great conversations with her. She made a good event even better. Her warm and inviting personality, smile was a welcoming addition to our visit. As a hospitality professional traveling training director, she exemplifies what it means to create a moment and make memories. We will definitely return to Hank’s when I in the area. Thanks Erin for making our visit amazing.

The food was fabulous!! We got a small Grand Plateau (it had all the seafood we wanted and then some), Grilled Octopus (very tender and the chimichurri paired nicely with it), Grilled Branzino (beautifully cooked and the fried capers were a pleasant surprise!), and one of the specials which was a seafood pasta (good portion and amount of seafood). For drinks we had the Not Your Nanas Bananas and Say Jalapeño to my Little Friend — both very good. The service was great; no complaints! We will definitely be back!

We really enjoyed our visit to Hank’s Oyster Bar. The host was warm and welcoming, and we sat on the enclosed patio with a relaxed, comfortable vibe. Our watress (her name started with a J) was very attentive and friendly. We started with the deviled eggs and charbroiled BBQ oysters, which were both excellent. My nine-year-old son tried oysters for the first time and loved them. The lobster po’ boy and crab cake sandwich were fresh and flavorful. We walked there from our hotel at the Salamander D.C., passing through the Wharf where people were out enjoying s’mores and the lively atmosphere. Everything about the evening, both at the restaurant and along the Wharf, was wonderful.

Hanks is one of my go to seafood spots in the wharf. I always order their raw oysters, charbroiled oysters, seafood pasta, lobster roll or Mac n cheese. The restaurant has an outdoor patio that is open when the weather is warm. I always recommend making reservations and if you cannot make one the bar always works.

The restaurant usually features oyster specials, happy hour specials during the week and this month they feature a 3 course Winter menu. I recommend registering with Toast before dining here so you can earn and redeem rewards points. There is a parking garage attached to the building and also street parking a couple of blocks up.

Hanks has good food, but it kinda depends on what you order. The char grilled oysters are good but not great. I really didn’t taste much smoke. Not like I do when I make them. The flavor was good otherwise. The seafood nachos were pretty good.

The seafood pasta was great, just a little too pricey… Especially for the portion. The short rib was decent but had room for improvement. I guess that’s what we get for ordering short ribs from an oyster bar. Don’t get me wrong. It tasted fine, but could’ve been more tender and some flavoring in it didn’t agree with my wife (that was her entree).

The house punch was a little weird. And the happy hour drinks were mid, but that’s to be expected. Also, the bar was a bit crowded even though there weren’t a whole lot of people. I guess it’s just kinda small. I’d definitely go again, but my expectations will be different.

My husband and I decided to dine here for lunch and I must say overall, it was an interesting experience. The service was great, there was no wait time to be seated, but there was a bit of a wait to be serviced. It was busy so I understand. We ended up having the best server Brandon! He was extremely polite, had such great customer service, and made sure we were well taken care of. Now to the food…I ordered the fish sandwich with fries and hush puppies as an appetizer. The hush puppies were good but the fish sandwich was not. It was the most bland fish I ever had. I had to use hot sauce and tartar sauce just to be able to eat it because I was hungry. The other bit of sauce they put on there does not help much. If definitely recommend seasoning the batter. The fries were good though. Now, I was seated facing the area where the servers pick up the food to deliver to the tables and I must say that I observed some very concerning and questionable things regarding proper food handling by one of the staff members. Also the time some of the food sat there before being picked up was concerning. I did mention the concerns to our server. I’m not sure if I’d want to dine here again due to that and the lack of flavor in the food.

We were strolling The Wharf late one evening, easily walkable from the hotel—a low-effort outing that accidentally led to a high-effort queue. Naturally, the first place we saw with a line was Hank’s. We put our name down, fully prepared for a disappointing wait, but the universe (or perhaps the hostess) recognized our superior bar-seating potential.
Instant gratification. They had room at the bar, so of course, that’s where we went. Skipping a line is always the best appetizer. We immediately ordered the Lobster Bisque (creamy perfection) and the Mussels in the red sauce. While the sauce was great, I think I got a handful of mussels. A handful. Clearly, they expect you to order two.
What saved the portion tragedy was the service and the sheer charm: they serve tiny fish crackers while you’re drinking at the bar, just in case you weren’t eating. It’s the kind of cute, unnecessary detail I appreciate. It was our first time here, and judging by the crowd, it’s the kind of reliable D.C. institution that keeps people waiting, which makes our seamless entry feel even sweeter. I hate waiting, but I love getting what I want immediately.

Forget the fancy—this place is super casual and the atmosphere is incredibly friendly and buzzing. It’s T-shirt-friendly territory.
Everything I sampled was seriously good, but the real hero? The Lobster Bisque. Hands down memorable. I’m pretty sure I could write a love song about it.
Go here, chill out, eat some great food. You won’t regret it.

Amazing! The manager Erin is priceless. She recommended the Hog Island style bbq Oysters and they were incredible. If you like oysters try them. A splash of hot sauce and parmesesn cheese! The flavor profile was just what my taste buds wanted. The Blistered peppers were an excellent side. Such great attention from the entire staff made my meal 5 stars. Don’t miss this place.

We were quickly seated even though it was dinner time on a Sunday. Our waiter quickly got our water and took our drink order. Cold beers came out quickly, followed by hot food. I ordered the oyster Po boy. I was a little disappointed with the size of the oysters, but the flavor was good. We also ordered the Rockfish. I didn’t think you could legally have a rockfish less than 18″. It was a little dry, but the flavor was good. Our last order was fish and chips. The batter overwhelmed the Cod. It needed some seasoning as well. Great views of the wharf area.

$3.50 an oyster is to steep for me to try the oysters at the raw bar. I’ve got an uncle who farms them and he’s only getting .60¢ for them.
