We had the best pork chop we’ve ever eaten, perfectly seared, juicy inside, and beautifully seasoned. The Baby Clam & Spicy Elk Sausage pasta was delicious too: the clams are on the small side, but the spicy elk sausage is a must-try, and the rich cream sauce ties it all together with great heat and texture. The New York strip was cooked exactly to a consistent medium, with a nice char. Our server also let us upgrade the fries to the white-truffle Parmesan version, super crisp and addictive, great with drinks.

We ordered right before the 10:00 pm kitchen cutoff and the quality was still excellent, thank you! Service was warm and friendly, and the taxidermy accented décor adds a distinctly local vibe.
Tip: after 10 pm the menu is limited to appetizers and pizza only.

Nice place, delicious food. I really liked the bison burger, the meat tasted and smelled great. Good for watching sports games and shows because there are lots of TVs. The atmosphere is pleasant.

Thank you so much. It was an awesome time. The French onion soup was completely out of control good. Hanks is a must visit while in West.

Also, there is some sort of Porsche drifting contest in town. Can this place get any cooler?

As we entered we were greeted with a friendly smile. Host took us to a table where a very jovial server named Brock welcomed us. We ordered drinks and two appetizers which came out in just a few minutes.

Wings were great, spinach dip fantastic. We came to this restaurant to try the Elk so I asked Brock what he would recommend. He gave us very knowledgeable guidance and we ordered the Bison Filet and Elk burger. We ordered both medium as they get dry done any more than that. They came to the table exactly as ordered.

Ambience of the place is your average sports bar but a bit more open and airy, TV’s everywhere. All in all a fabulous experience, would recommend after a long day touring the Yellowstone.

We had such a great experience at Hank’s Chop Shop while staying in West Yellowstone! The menu is very diverse, which made it easy for everyone in the family to find something they loved. My kids ordered the kids’ burgers, which were a third pound each, and both said they were fantastic. The fries were perfectly crunchy and so good.

My husband went with the elk and clam pasta, and not only did it look incredible, but he said it was absolutely delicious. I had the black and blue salad, and it was perfection. A perfectly cooked medium flat iron steak sat on the freshest salad with very generous portions of toppings. The blue cheese was plentiful, the avocado was creamy, and even the cucumber tasted unbelievably fresh.

Our server, Brock, made the whole experience even better. He was very patient and attentive, and never once seemed rushed, even though he was serving a massive section of the restaurant.

We will definitely be recommending Hank’s Chop Shop to anyone visiting West Yellowstone!

So I’m from New Jersey. Came out to visit my boyfriend hunting elk… I mentioned this place to him. He tried it before I came out. He said we’re going here its so good. So we ended up coming here almost every day for a week. My elk and bison burgers were amazing and I loved the truffle fries… and oh, that bread pudding dessert was literally the best I ever had! A++++ We need a Hanks in Jersey.. just saying!
Oh and the elk ravioli…. omg

What a great place, my husband and I stopped in on our way through Yellowstone. We started with French onion soup and the salad wedge. The soup was good but could have used more onions and croutons on top. The wedge was great with tons of crumbled blue cheese and bacon bits.
I had the French dip which was amazing. The roast was perfectly medium rare and the horseradish sauce was incredible. The fries were fine but the onion rings were better. My husband had the grilled chicken sandwich topped with French fried onions. Our server Gabrielle was wonderful and very attentive. With a terrific personality to boot.

We had dinner at Hank’s Chop Shop in Yellowstone around 9pm, and unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience.

I ordered the Chicken Wellington, but when it arrived, the chicken was visibly undercooked in the center. I politely asked the waitress to take a look, and she came over with an annoyed attitude and told us, “That’s the way how it’s cooked.” We explained that the chicken was clearly raw, especially because one of my friends ordered the same dish and his chicken was fully cooked and tasted fine.

After insisting, she finally said, “Okay, so what do you want me to do? Change into?” Then she took the plate away with a frustrated face.

A few minutes later, the replacement dish — Shrimp Alfredo — came, and shockingly, the shrimp were also undercooked. We cut the shrimp open and even had all four of my friends try it — the centers were translucent and clearly not fully cooked.

Additionally, when we first entered from the back door after parking, one of the servers told my friends (who are international visitors) to “just find a seat,” so they did — but we were then told we had to wait in line. Which is fine, but the first staff member didn’t explain anything about needing to wait, so it was confusing.

Maybe the restaurant was overwhelmed with customers, and I can understand that. But being busy should never be an excuse for rude service. The same server even said she had worked there for seven years and had “never seen anything like this.” Was she implying this situation was our fault? Even if we had different taste or expectations, she could’ve taken a minute to explain things nicely — not shut us down with “this is just how it is.”

We left feeling disrespected.

The food itself was okay, but the service was the real problem. It took over 30 minutes for our food to arrive, and we were treated like a burden instead of customers.

If you’re a visitor to Yellowstone and care about being treated with respect, I’d think twice before dining here.

Thanks Hanks!
We stayed about a block from This place and ate here 4 nights in 1 week. It was awesome every time! The bison filet was amazing. We tried all the burgers, both fish dishes, wings, French onion soup, a pizza, elk ravioli & chicken alfredo. We had a short wait for a table the first night. It was busy but we had great service. The last night we got take out. If you are in West Yellowstone, definitely give this place a try.
