This is a great place! Waiter was super nice! And the foood was great! Would recommend the little smokie, but I got the grilled cheese which is so good! The furniture was a bit weird, and they need some more country style decorations, but it was very clean and nice. The building is super fun too, and is in a small town that really cute. The prices are also great! Can’t complain about anything being too expensive. Tammy the waitress was super nice!

Talk about a hole in the wall! We found this place on google as we are from Lafayette IN, and came down for a ski trip at perfect north.
From the fried green tomatoes to half chicken and catfish entrées everything was delicious!! And don’t forget the bourbon bread pudding, it’s the owner’s (Tammy) mother’s recipe and it’s sooo good!

THEY HAVE BEEN OPEN 3 YEARS! How we haven’t heard of this place before is beyond me. Talk about elevated southern comfort food.
Deviled Eggs – the best I’ve ever had at any restaurant and most homemade.
Smoked half chicken – juicy and perfect.
Smoked meatloaf – to die for.
Sides: perfect baked beans and collard greens. Carrot salad with bourbon soaked raisins was like desert. The only thing I’d call good/ average was the peanut slaw.
And all very reasonably priced.

Great small town feel! Food felt like something I would make at home, but they did seem to struggle with food temperature. Our server Tammy was very kind and helped with everything we needed. I got the lil Smokie sandwich and it was very good, Mac and cheese was kind of mid. Overall a good small town homestyle restaurant.

We visited Hankering Southern Kitchen this Saturday evening while we were nearby at the Creation Museum and had a great experience. We started with their delicious signature Fried Green Tomatoes and their homemade (but really everything they serve is homemade) buttermilk cheddar and garlic muffins. I had their smoked ribs that fell off the bone. My wife had their smoked meatloaf, and my daughter had their adult grilled cheese sandwich. All the sides were fabulous, too. The service was friendly and attentive. We’ll be back; you can count on it!

Fried green tomatoes were ok. The tomato needed seasoning and cooked longer. The corn bread was ok. The ribs were ok. The chicken was ok. The potato salad, greens and baked beans were ok. The bread pudding was good.

The service was honestly fantastic. The waitress was very nice and friendly, however my food was a little disappointing. We went around lunch time which might have had something to do with it. But, my mac n cheese was cold and the noodles were undercooked. My sandwich was good, but nothing crazy. This could, and probably is, not typical based on the other reviews of this restaurant. However, based on my experience it is a 3 star meal. I would probably go back, but it isn’t something I’d rave about.

Where do I start! Meatloaf and shrimp and devil eggsalad was out of this world, but then we had the bread pudding and about died it was so AMAZING! Highly recommend this little gem! Owner is fabulous too! We will definitely be back if we ever get back this way!

This place is a hidden gem. Well, maybe not hidden but definitely a gem. The service was excellent; the owner served us and was very patient. She took time to ask us our preferences and then made suggestions based on that. The food was phenomenal and for the price, cannot be beat. I had the lil smokie, which was a chicken sandwich but smoked with a special sauce in it which really complimented the chicken. My wife had the fried catfish and said it was the best she’s had around. Overall, very great experience and I would recommend Hankering to anyone who’s looking for some good ol southern food. We will be back!
