Stepping into the cozy setting was satisfying with the frigid winter night.
We ordered the bread and butter with crispy chicken skin chips, the bison skirt steak and the roasted bone marrow with toast. All was so well presented and prepared.
Dessert did not disappointment with a Swiss roll with cream.
We will gladly return as the owners very frequently rotate the menu. (I overheard one of the owners mention she was adding some kind of cinnamon roll dessert which sounds like Heaven.)
Service was very pleasant and attentive.
Hugely recommend. You pay for the quality.
Pictured: Italian grinder sliders, a spin on bagel and lox (tuna, cucumber, capers, everything bagel chips), seared tuna steak (sushi-grade, so it has that beautiful color of fresh tuna between the sear), I believe a peach dish with ice cream that came out so warm and was eaten so fast I hardly remember what it was, and the most incredible Sweet Potato Mousse with local maple syrup, spiced cookie crumble, and Chantilly cream.
The food was amazing, the mussels were the big hit, the staff super friendly, we will def come back if we are in the neighborhood.
The food was outstanding—fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and packed with flavor. The cocktails were just as impressive, perfectly balanced and delicious. From start to finish, everything was fantastic.
As picky eaters, this means a lot to us, and Hangry Kitchen easily earns five stars. It’s so good that we’ll now make it a point to travel outside our normal area just to come back. We can’t recommend it enough and will definitely be coming back often.
The staff at the bar were kind and welcoming when I picked up my order, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the food just didn’t live up to expectations.
I ordered the oxtail sliders, which turned out to be more like tiny bites than actual sliders. They had an odd chunk of what seemed like canned pineapple inside, more pineapple than meat, honestly. Also the tiny bun which seemed to be maybe a biscuit texture was extremely hard . To top that off ,everything was tossed around in the container, not even resembling sliders. I only drove a short distance, so I don’t think that was due to transit.
I also tried the cornbread dumplings. They were more enjoyable than the sliders, but still missed the mark. They were sitting in a vegetable-style medley and were very soggy at the bottom. I’m not sure if that’s how they’re supposed to be, but it wasn’t a texture I enjoyed.
I told the bartender I’d come back and dine in next time, thinking this meal would be great, but sadly, I won’t be returning. I was really looking forward to this meal, but I’m left feeling disappointed, unsatisfied, and ironically very “hangry”, especially after spending that much money.
The Menu has fancy names to divide its options and even fancier words like eclipsed delights, but it lacks the practicality of telling you what those things are really going to be.
I appreciate the art of it all , but if I am meant to spend $300 dollars on upscale pickies why am sitting on a tiny, uncomfortable, cold, metal chair and walking through the kitchen to the bathroom? Obviously you will tell me it is the location, but I am telling you that it is an off putting kind of thing in a place I am spending $300 dollars for a four top at. The entire night felt like a fine dining menu out of a Gastro Pub.
Hearing the name Hangry Kitchen you might expect to be fed heartily but that is not the case. Honestly I got takeout from somewhere else on the way home because the seven bites over four split dishes was not the answer for dinner. The best part was dessert which was the size you would expect.
If you have an adventurous foodie in your life you should give this place a try, but I cannot tell you I am lining up to go back.
It is beautiful to see a real restaurant out in the wild and I again cannot say enough about the service ,you can feel how special the place is to them and I loved that, but what even is an eclipsed delight and why is there a flower head on my grilled cheese if I cannot eat it? These perceived fancy aspects would be better spent transforming the dining room. You can make a place feel like you can be casually dressed and still have deep, luxurious, upscale amenities that make folks want to sit and spend money.
Can’t wait to go back as we heard the menu is changed weekly and the veggies are plentiful in the summer as locally sourced.
