We decided to give Hangry Joe’s another shot after a disappointing experience over a year ago — and I’m glad we did. This time around, we ordered the Mega Sando, which comes with a large chicken cutlet, pickles, cabbage coleslaw, and a creamy sauce.
The chicken itself was moist, flavorful, and definitely a generous portion. That said, the way they present it — with the cutlet hanging way off the bun — gives the illusion that it’s huge. It’s a clever presentation trick, but in reality, it’s just a solidly sized piece of chicken, not the monster it appears to be in the photos. Still, no complaints on taste or texture.
The sauce leaned heavily on a mayo base but worked well with the rest of the sandwich. The simple cabbage slaw added a nice bit of sweetness and crunch, even if it wasn’t anything fancy. All the elements came together nicely, and for the price, it felt like a good value.
Overall, this visit turned things around for us. The sandwich was satisfying, and I’d return based on this experience. Not perfect, but definitely worth a second chance.
The service was terrible. We were one of three groups when we came in and one was already eating. After 20 minutes, they brought out food for us but it was actually for the other group. Ours came closer to 30 minutes. Only one person working the front so I felt bad for her. The AC was presumably out as they were using large fans and it was about 80° in the store.
My wife said the service is much better at the location she goes to in Montgomery County. All in all the food was good enough that I’d go back and try it again, although maybe sticking to the hot chicken and avoiding the Korean.
Chicken first time was good. Large portion. Fries were excellent.
Second time chicken was okay, had the wrap, wasn’t as “clean” as you hope to bite into. More cartilage and bits than less. Fries were still good, but oil seemed like it hadn’t been swapped or cleaned. I would like this to succeed. But it definitely feels like the typical – “let’s open a restaurant, now it’s open maybe not put that much effort into the interior space.” I don’t think it’s always necessarily the staffing but can be management / leadership.
I also ordered 6 wings, and they cooked perfectly. They were delicious. Fries were good, and the fountain drinks and ice all worked and were good.
They have TVs to watch while eating, which we like.
Staff was fine and brought our food to our table.
Not bad. Maybe we just went on a bad chef day.
Also not to mention, if you do an order online they literally won’t start it until you’ve just got to the restaurant. why is that?
