Reviews
A highlight of the night was the service; the lady at the counter was so kind and welcoming (didn’t catch her name, but she was lovely!). They even gave us some freebies to try from their new menu—fried cheese mochi balls. They were perfectly fried and delicious! Will definitely be back.
I recently ordered takeout from Hana Sushi for the first time. Being unfamiliar with the menu, I deferred to the staff’s recommendations and ordered five different rolls. Unfortunately, what began as a simple dinner turned into the worst customer service experience of my life.
The Food:
The meal was significantly below average. While the miso soup and one of the rolls were passable, the rest were nearly inedible. The rolls lacked flavor, were overloaded with cream cheese, and contained almost no fish. Most disappointing was the “real” crab roll, which did not taste like actual crab at all.
The Phone Call:
When I called to politely express my disappointment and ask for a refund or a replacement, the female owner refused. Her reasoning was deeply concerning: she stated they couldn’t offer a refund because they “couldn’t resell the rolls.” It is a massive health code red flag that a restaurant would even consider reselling food that has already left the building and been in a customer’s possession.
When I tried to discuss this further, she left the phone off the hook and walked away, clearly hoping I would just hang up. When she realized I was still waiting, she abruptly hung up on me and refused to answer any subsequent calls during business hours.
The In-Person Encounter:
Hoping for a more professional resolution, I returned to the restaurant in person. I remained polite and well-mannered throughout the interaction, which was witnessed by several other customers who actually agreed that a refund was warranted. Instead, the male owner was incredibly hostile. He refused to listen to my concerns and repeatedly shouted “no” before grabbing the store phone and threatening to call the police simply because I was asking for a resolution to a poor meal.
Conclusion:
I eventually accepted that this establishment has no interest in quality control or basic human decency. To be threatened with the police for calmly disputing a $60+ order is unacceptable. Between the mediocre, tasteless food and the appalling management, I strongly advise the public to stay away from Hana Sushi. There are far better options in the area that actually value their customers and follow basic food safety protocols.
I will be back just to have the John’s roll again!! My new favorite!
I paid extra to upgrade my salmon to sockeye and was given the absolute thinnest pieces of fish I have ever seen in my life. Terrible paper thin slices. The tuna was chewy and tough.
Even the soy sauce was terrible, made in china??? Why not Japanese soy?
Definitely a good stop in place for dinner!
