We walked in for an early afternoon Sunday lunch and were shocked. The atmosphere is anything but warm, inviting or cozy. Stark white, 4 tvs playing sports. The place was empty and the person at the counter didn’t bother to acknowledge us until we started to turn around to leave. I don’t get the aesthetic they’re going for- liquor store? Sports bar? Carry out? We don’t need another cheap sports bar. We didn’t stay.

I have ordered carryout here a half a dozen times since it opened and everything is amazing. I’ve tried the cheeseburger, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, dal tadka, and always samosas. The flavors are amazing and not over salt. The portions are on point- (Always leftovers with the Indian dishes.) The Samosa’s are so fresh- the crust is light, flaky and buttery.
Inside the restaurant, the lighting is way too bright. I think if this were adjusted and decorations put on the walls, it would really help the atmosphere.

Bad food, bad atmosphere, bad ownership.
This new iteration of The Hamilton Tavern is a travesty and has no business using the name of the original beloved institution.
Don’t be fooled, this is not a restaurant but just a low quality packaged goods store.
The space has an awful menu and cuisine. The ambiance is similar to a Scandinavian prison. And the ownership is not invested in the surrounding community.
Avoid and take your business to several of the other wonderful restaurants nearby.

My first instinct when I walked through the door was to immediately turn around and leave. Any charm from The Hamilton Tavern has been ripped out/or covered with a layer of white paint and spackle (unsanded), it was blinding uninviting. Music is played so loudly that it feels like you are ” in the club” with all the lights on while prepping happens. The “bar” isn’t one you can really sit at because there is no depth or bar-like structure, it’s really just a pine and glass showcase of liquor bottles. There isn’t even a section behind the bar with the necessary set ups like glasses and other bar accoutrement. When we ordered beer, there are no taps, only a very limited selection of bottles beer, the server came with the wrong beer and said they didn’t have the other, which I could see across the room in the case. Just the ambiance and drink experience clued me in that ordering food wouldn’t be a good idea, so I can’t speak to the cousine. The server was nice but that wasn’t nearly enough to have me spend my time or appetite there. The tavern would serve the community better by putting a lock on the door and turning out the lights! What a disappointment.

A travesty. Why would the owner insult our neighborhood this way? We deserve better than a booze carry out.

Peeked in. Ruined the beautiful space that had been around forever. That bar was far far older than Ham Tav. Low end liquor store. I mean, displaying 750’s of Tito’s? Not sure if they have lotto or keno. If you have to ask for a burger as the #4… They got one over on the neighborhood. There is a liquor store across the street. You should go to Amendment 21.

All of this criticism is unfair. Hamilton Spice may not have the same vibe as Hamilton Tavern. But It’s a new restaurant! The pot stickers were great. And I’ll return.
