The food was very good and fresh. We had sushi and wagyuu, both very tasty. To order wagyuu, the minimum is 2 portions.

The staff is friendly and does their best to be as helpful as possible, but the language is a huge barrier, their English as well as Japanese knowledge is limited. For example, they have two types of wagyuu in the menu (one with vegetables and sauce, one without). We ordered the plain one, and showed the item in the menu, but received the other :)) Since the price was the same, and the food was delicious and a new experience, we ate the one we received 🙂

In a Japanese restaurant I would expect a Japanese atmosphere and native staff, however that was not the the case. The overall atmosphere was nice, but 100% European.

Got the katsu pork set and it was very well made. My set also came with a green tea ice cream. My husband got the hand roll set and it was pretty good too – very thick and densely packed. Sadly a lot of options were not available but they also have changing lunch sets which looked pretty good too. Lastly we would come back for the shabu shabu option , min 2 orders.

5 stars food! Real authentic Japanese. If you are looking for a break from Italian food, look no further!

However, service was very slow for us.

Still definitely 5 stars and will come back just for the food alone!

Highly recommended, just keep in mind about the service which can sometimes take very long, eg. getting the menu, getting someone to take our order, getting the bill, etc.

*note: there’s 1 particular table with rapid blinking lights we were told to wait at while our other table was being prepared. I really cannot stand those lights (I get blurred visions and headaches from those) and glad I did not have to be seated there.

Excellent Japanese owned and operated restaurant in Centro, there’s a broad menu, but I recommend sitting at the bar and ordering what’s fresh and made-to-order, because some of the best cuts are only available for a la carte nigiri, sashimi and temaki hand rolls. Service is excellent, in Italian, Japanese and English.

Update: Came back to order off the menu. They started us with a small salmon amuse bouche, then we had the agedashi tofu starter. I had the piato misti with assorted sushi niguri and maki, the futo maki which were huge but we’re filled with salmon, unagi, fried ebi, and hamachi. finished it off with green tea gelato and vanilla gelato. Excellent as always

This is considered one of the best Japanese restaurants in Rome, and I have been here many times for both lunch and dinner. However, this latest experience was really not good.

The waiters turned their backs while we were still asking questions; we ordered some sweets, but they never communicated with the kitchen. Despite this, they provide disposable chopsticks, which is quite unacceptable given the price and environmental concerns. Additionally, the walls of this restaurant are full of dust, and the area under the decorative light belt is covered with cobwebs. I had dinner facing that wall, and it was quite disturbing, I have to say.

The food is fairly okay.

Awesome experience. Real Japanese sushi and great atmosphere. The place is centrally located and has lots of tables. But always good to book to make sure you can get a table.

The food is delicious and very tasty. The ingredients are fresh and the lunch menu is abundant.

Great price for the quality – 15€ for the sushi menu.

Absolutely outstanding! I was extremely surprised positively. As a japanese person myself, I can confidently say that this restaurant offers the highest quality Japanese cuisine I’ve experienced in Rome. I opted for the simple lunch set priced at 15€ and was pleasantly surprised by the generous portion size – approximately 11 pieces of sushi, miso soup, a variety of okazu, and a delightful assortment of fruit. The quality of the fish was exceptional, especially considering we’re outside of Japan. Every bite was bursting with flavor, leaving me thoroughly impressed. Again to emphasize, the sushi was absolutely wonderful, boasting a vibrant flavor palette that simply cannot be compared to the stale and fishy offerings found at all-you-can-eat restaurants.
I have no reservations about returning to sample one of their more elaborate course meals. Highly recommended, I have only praise!

My experience at Hamasei was really good! The tempura sardines, grilled salmon, Unagi Nigiri, and Maguro Nigiri were perfectly prepared. The freshness and flavors of the dishes were excellent. The Hakkaisan sake paired wonderfully with the meal. I recommend it to anyone looking for good Japanese cuisine in Rome!

Amazing sukiyaki with loads of meat! The rice was a little mushy, but the sukiyaki was so good I ended up having two more bowls. Loved the plum wine too!
Also, all the service was nice!
