I stopped in at Half Shell Oyster House in Trussville and walked away feeling pretty satisfied with the experience. The food itself was good—well-prepared and flavorful, definitely the highlight of the visit. Service overall was just okay, but I will say the waitress taking care of my table was very attentive and made sure I had everything I needed throughout the meal.
All in all, it turned out to be a pretty good dining experience. Not perfect, but enjoyable enough that I’d consider stopping by again.

My wife and I visited Half Shell Oyster House on December 14th, 2025. On arrival we were immediately seated and server, Alisin, came by very quickly to take our drink orders. She provided outstanding service by keeping our drinks full, stopping by the table regularly to make sure we were taken care of. For starters I ordered the Voodoo shrimp, which was very good. A sweet flavor, very little to no spice, but cooked perfectly. I would definitely recommend this item to anyone. Next up was the garden salad with Bleu cheese dressing. While I am not a huge fan of many different greens in a salad, this was very good and the dressing was delicious as well. A side that I ordered was the red beans and rice, that was requested to be served with entre but was delivered with salad. This dish was very good, although a little cayenne would have added a bit of spice. Rice was delicious and made for a great appetizer. My entre was Red Fish au gratin. The fish was cooked perfectly and while the shrimp au gratin was ok, it had a very fishy taste. Some of the pasta mixed in was under cooked and all in all it seemed to overpower the fish. Maybe a bit less would have been better. Overall the meal was good and appetizers were really good. Service was definitely the highlight of our visit. When I come back in town to visit the family, I will stop in and eat dinner. I have eaten here about 5 times now. Great atmosphere and service has been good. Food has always been good but tonight my burger was well done instead of medium. The manager did address the issue. I do want to give a shout out tonight to our server Smoov he was awesome, great presentation when he greeted us and told us about the daily specials was able to answer any questions we had about menu, had a great personality and even suggested to get our desert with a certain twist which was spot on. If you come to eat here ask for him you want be disappointed

The drinks are good, the island punch was strong and decent price. The oysters sampler is a great way to indulge in oysters as a beginner. 12 oysters with 4 different seasonings. The seafood potpie is the best pot Ive ever had. The seafood pasta was very bland and dont recommend. Overall great experience for a intimate date night.

This place is a hidden gem in my opinion. The food was great and the raw oysters on the halfshell were the freshest tasting oysters I’ve ever had in this area. Im someone who will order half a dozen anywhere they are on the menu. Honestly I will be coming to this place for my oysters from now on. Also I had a great waitor named Smooth, who was full of knowledge about the menu and as friendly as they come. This restaurant is beautiful on the inside too.

Today is my Mom’s Birthday and I brought her here for a taste of home. Being from the Big Easy this place doesn’t disappoint at all. Food and all was fantastic. The Bartender/ Waitress that we had today 1/24/26 @ 2:30 pm was very polite and very professional. I am bad with names and I wish I could remember to give her a recognition, so her hard work with us. She was all over taking care of business. She needs a raise if I may say.

Went for early dinner for my birthday. The food was good and enjoyed the bread pudding.
Dee was quick to get our drink orders and our appetizer arrived quickly. She continued to check on us throughout our dinner even though she had other tables. Very enjoyable evening!!
