In late 2008 the concept for Half Shell Oyster House was born in the mind of company president Bob Taylor and polished off later with his partners Rob Heffner, Kevin Fish and Brian Raspberry. The concept was to provide a phenomenal dining experience with a menu that highlighted Southern cuisine with a New Orleans flair. The atmosphere offers a relaxed yet classic vibe reminiscent of the French Quarter. The interior subtly showcases exposed brick, wrought iron railing, stained glass, and antique doors. The design is complimented by the sound of jazz that weaves through the air. Today we have multiple locations in Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana.

We order takeout fairly often from the Spanish Fort location. We usually don’t mind paying higher prices for quality food instead of choosing cheap fast food. My issue is the level of care put into preparing the to go orders. Please do better by making sure all the components are included in the dish and food isn’t just thrown sloppily into takeout containers and please double check to be sure all items are included in the order. Too often we are missing bread from pasta dish, vegetables from sandwiches and rice from gumbo. Last night my gumbo was a partial portion with no rice AGAIN. Yummy but not worth $7.25.

I recently visited Half Shell Oyster House, and I have to say, it was an amazing experience! The service was excellent—our server, Brandon, was the best I’ve had in a long time. He was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. As for the food, it was absolutely delicious. We started with the Rockefeller artichoke dip, which was creamy and packed with flavor. Then, we had the po boy with fried catfish, and the catfish was crispy and perfectly seasoned. The po boy bread was freshly made, which made it even better. We also ordered a pasta dish, and it was just as tasty—full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The boudin balls were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, making them the perfect bite. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the flavors were spot on. Overall, I highly recommend Half Shell Oyster House for anyone looking for great food and even better service.

As a first date choice, I could not have made a better choice. Needless to say that you’re so hoping to make a good impression on so many levels and choosing a place to get to know the person you’re with is so important. First the interior and ambience was so inviting, even if this weren’t our first date it would have been perfect for any follow up visits. Amy was our wait staff/ server and we could not have been more fortunate. She was so personable and made us both feel as welcomed as one could. Her approach to explaining the menu was above and beyond and made our choices easy. We both chose a fish dish and needless to say we were not disappointed, both entrees were so delicious and the sides made it that more. Our drinks made the meal as we will most likely come back for just those alone.
Though we passed on deserts, it would not surprise me if on our return visit we took advantage of them.

I often eat at the one in mobile and it’s always enjoyable. This was my first time eating at the one in Spanish fort but I was not disappointed. The food and service was excellent. The key lime martini was so good, definitely the best Martini I ever had.

I’ve been eating thier great food for years. The atmosphere is wonderful.
The employees are even better, and many been here for years. The music playing in the ground finishes out the whole experience. You can’t go wrong. This place has it all from atmosphere, food, music and servers. Love it ❤️

I last came here 6 years ago. Don’t live around anymore. Just came back to say that the Bananas Foster Cheesecake is the best desert I’ve ever had and I think about it regularly. Still on the menu. Do not EVER take it off. I’ll be back eventually.

Food costs an arm and a leg and tastes like shit. Got a red snapper fillet for about 30 dollars and it was thinner than my pinky. I don’t even think it was snapper, it tasted like straight cheap chicken. For 30 dollars. Then ordered crab claws with some hope. 20 dollars for 10 claws, only for my stomach to feel like hell after eating. I saw roaches crawling and I just about wanted to throw up. The waiters are blunt and rude. Will not be eating here ever again and will not be recommending to anyone.
