The Half Shell started out as a very small place with a few tables and a bar. A fun little joint where you could get oysters, shrimp, hamburgers, and really cold beer. It had the atmosphere of an old Panama City Beach dive with walls covered in dollar bills signed by customers. The cooking line was right behind the bar, so your bartender was also the cook. Customers from that time still talk about the old place. On November, 1st 1996 we moved to our current location. We also moved over a thousand dollar bills that had been stapled to the walls. That tradition continued for several years and the money was later donated to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.

Today our server was Olivia. She knows how to make a person feel special.
Our oysters were perfect (as usual). Great atmosphere and fabulous food and service.
We stopped on our way to Birmingham for a quick bite. I’d passed by before and was curious about the food quality.
I ordered the fried shrimp platter with slaw and fries with a Michelob Ultra on tap. The beer was COLD. I wouldn’t call it a platter but more of a plate. Don’t get me wrong, it’s more than enough food but a platter is something you should have leftovers from. The shrimp were fresh and battered properly. The slaw was really good, fries were not greasy and very hot and fresh. Hush puppies were fair for frozen. The wife ordered the fish and shrimp basket. Basically a platter minus one side. (Sorry no pic). She liked it and she’s very picky about her fish.
I’d recommend it and we will probably stop by next time we pass through.
A nice atmosphere lots of open seating. Staff was amazing and food was absolutely just amazing.
