I went to Halfshell for the first time today. I ordered the shrimp and corn chowder and the king crab legs with fries. The soup was delicious and full of flavor. The king crab legs and fries came out steaming hot. The crab was meaty and full of flavor. The service was excellent. This is a place I’ll definitely return to for a low key vibe and good seafood.

I cannot recommend this place more. It is 100% a place you have to visit when on the north side of Chicago. We had the grilled oysters for an appetizer and oh my gosh!!! The salad with the house made salad dressing is phenomenal. But the king crab legs, oh so good and enough to satisfy my middle linebacker husband! And when you go ask for Mike, the absolute BEST!!!

Ok pescatarian heaven. Seafood legend since 1968 for a reason! Loved it!! Probably the freshest crab I’ve tasted. Clam chowder was amazing and fried shrimp rocked. Oh and those Grilled Oysters and cheese on them! They got beer wine and cocktails and fun ones too! You can miss this spot, it’s a Chicago tradition! @chicagopescetarian

Had a great lunch here for the first time. I had the snow crab and king crab combo. It was served on a bed of skinny french fries. It was steamed perfectly the meat came out of the show very easily.
Our server was very kind and actually started cracking some of the legs and told me I was leaving some of the good parts.
Really great place with a lot of seafood options.

You may see several photos from my rating because this is one of my favorite places to eat in Chicago.
You will never be disappointed in the menu, services and price.
I always go for the split of king and snow crab.
Your plate will come with a bed of friends covered with crab legs that are big, delicious and will leave you full.
You get a tiger lollipop that’s tucked away in your plate…. I can not say one bad thing about half shell!
Located right on the corner served in an old apartment in Lakeview. Full bar from beers on tap to having a yummy margarita.
Non stop hospitality.
Great for any and every occasion. There is one thing I did remember and that’s the plan ahead of your in a big group. Tables are small and the restaurant really isn’t that big with the bar and fire place taking up space. Summer or slightly warm fall days there is an outdoor patio where a larger group would fit.
They only take cash but don’t worry there is a ATM debit machine right in the back.
Go there… You’ll be back just like me!

We went to The Half Shell For the first time on a Saturday night, it also happened to be Valentine’s Day. They don’t take reservations and it was a long wait, but so well worth it. We had a nice time chatting with some of the other people who were waiting and once we got our food, it was wonderful. I’m a big fan of crabcakes and the ones I had at The Half Shell were perfect. We had appetizers and soup and an entree so we felt the pricing was very reasonable. The service was excellent. This place was founded in 1968 and it still has a similar atmosphere, which we loved. We will definitely be back..

We came here because of the good reviews, and everything was excellent—the taste, the atmosphere, and the staff.
The Dungeness crab was perfectly steamed and seasoned, and absolutely delicious.
The fried frog legs were cooked just right—tender and tasty.
The clam chowder also had an exquisite flavor.
We’ll try other kinds of crab next time and definitely come back!

Love this place. It’s casual with great seafood. The king crab is a must and their clam chowder is amazing. You. One thing to note is that is CASH ONLY but there is an ATM inside.

Nice little dive bar in Lakeview east. Cash only. Had the rotating oysters that were imported from Canada and they were fresh. Had an espresso martini and clam chowder. It’s always a good vibe here. Been here a few times and it is never crowded (don’t let that fool you, it’s good). Good vibe to escape from reality. Bartenders are down to earth and welcoming to all people.
