I love this place. Since 1946. Quanset hut from WW II. Good food and nice people on both sides of the bar. Who knew?

This is a treasure. We were in Groton for a few days for work and I had to see this bar in an old Quonset hut. It is nicely renovated with a tiny kitchen at the end of the bar. This reminded me of little bars I used to go to in South Korea so I liked the place immediately. Then a few minutes after we sat down the bartender put upside cups in front of us to indicate we had free drinks when we were ready. Hank had bought a round for the house 🙂 We couldn’t stay for long, but I immediately felt welcome here and will come back as soon as I can!

The name is apt – the Half-Keg looks the part, as it is located in a refurbished Quonset hut – and that ambiance recommends it for those seeking a no-frills experience. The food is cheap, and you get what you pay for. Decent beer selection, which is good, since they don’t serve hard alcohol.
