A casual spot serving an extensive Vietnamese menu & some Chinese dishes in an unassuming setting.

This is a small but very good restaurant. I went there for lunch with a friend and was very impressed. The food was delicious, the portions were generous, and the prices were very reasonable. While the noise level was a bit high due to the restaurant being busy and everyone chatting, it wasn’t a major issue. There was only one waitress, but he was very friendly and attentive. He did a very good job.
While at the restaurant, even though he did a very good job.

Loved this place and will be going back. The meat in the brisket pho was tender and flavorful. The broth was warming and delicious. The Hawaiian leaf sausage banh mi was incredible. I dipped it in the pho and it was my favorite bite.

I was served undercooked/rancid chicken. I noticed something was wrong as soon as my banh mi was brought to me. The chicken was pink, raw, and mushy. It had a rancid aftertaste. I took a photo in case I had food poisoning symptoms and only after did I notice the hair in my food! This has left me feeling so sick and disgusted 🙁 I am quite disappointed by my experience

Overall Thoughts: This spot has become one of my favorite spots in Argyle for fresh, traditional, and flavorful Vietnamese food at a solid price. Everything I tried was wonderful and the light, aromatic flavors truly hit the spot. The hawaiian leaf sausage is a must have, and they also have a plethora of banh mi options (+ other menu options) that I’m dying to return to try. The food comes out quickly and the staff are super sweet. The inside is very simple and barebones, but spacious and comfortable.
Food I tried:
– Hawaiian leaf sausage rice paper rolls (4.9/5): The hawaiian leaf sausage is one of the best things I’ve had in awhile. It’s absolutely fire— so juicy and flavorful.
– Charbroiled pork skewer banh mi (4.7/5): A very solid and tasty banh mi for a reasonable price- $8. The bread was fresh and airy, the pork was juicy and flavorful, the veggies were sharp and crisp, and the sandwich was well sauced and not dry.
– Grilled shrimp vermicelli bowl (4.3/5): Another solid dish that we enjoyed. The shrimp was a little overcooked but the lightly sweet and fishy flavors were on point.

This was once one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants and I rarely write negative reviews. Party of 2. We’d both dined here before and were excited to return. Started with Vietnamese shrimp & pork egg rolls and Hawaiian leaf wrapped sausages were just ok, they used to be 10 outa 10 outstanding. Ordered caramelized shrimp and pork with brown rice for a shared entree. What was served were tough thin cut breaded and fried pork slices with bones in (with white rice) and nary a shrimp. We returned it after one bite for the unremarkable orange chicken.
The service was dull and slow. The warm inviting vibes are gone. I probably will not ever go back.

Hai Yen is a laid-back Vietnamese restaurant with friendly service and a comforting menu. The Hawaiian sausage was a standout with its flavorful, slightly charred texture and hearty meat filling, while the Vietnamese dry noodles offered a simple & satisfying mix of meat and seafood over noodles for a homey and comforting taste. A solid no-frills spot for a hearty and enjoyable Vietnamese meal.

Kind of a baffling experience. Ordered a spring roll and asked to have a few more minutes to figure out entree and they just never came back. Different server brought the roll and left. Only a few other occupied tables in the place too, they weren’t swamped. Kept making eye contact with the waiter but he would just go to other tables. After a half hour finally got up and walked to the counter to ask for the check.
Spring roll was pretty good though.

My partner and I, love it here! The best Vietnamese food here in Chicago. Since we moved to Vegas, we knew we had to eat here when we visited. No doubt, still our favorite Vietnamese restaurant. The food is authentic and delicious! Must have! Please do not come here and ask for stir fry.
