I was really excited to try the Roasted Duck Bowl, but it turned out to be a cold dish, while I expected something hot and juicy (I wish there was any mention about the cold dish). Then I ordered the Vegan Gyoza, which sadly was the worst gyoza I’ve ever had.
The Yuzu ice cream was okay, but it clearly
wasn’t made from scratch – you could easily find the same one in any Asian grocery store (I checked).
Overall, after this dining experience, I actually left hungry
The bowls are the stars here — rich broths, perfectly cooked noodles, and toppings that hit all the right notes. The Tonkotsu Ramen was creamy, hearty, and deep in flavor, with tender chashu pork that practically melts in your mouth. The Black Garlic Ramen added that roasted, smoky edge that makes you slow down and savor each bite, while the Shoyu Ramen balanced clean soy flavor with nostalgic comfort. Each one was distinct, but all were consistently satisfying.
The menu beyond ramen really shines too. The Spicy Tuna Roll (with creamy avocado and sesame) had that perfect kick of heat balanced by freshness. The Fried Rice was fluffy, flavorful, and loaded with smoky wok character — the kind of simple dish that steals the spotlight. The Takoyaki were crispy outside, gooey inside, topped with bonito flakes dancing in the steam — classic and delicious.
The Curry Rice had a savory depth that was pure comfort food, while the Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna was a standout: crunchy base, creamy topping, a little drizzle of sauce — flavor and texture in perfect balance. And of course, the Gyoza came pan-seared just right: golden crisp bottoms, juicy inside, with a dipping sauce that tied it all together.
The service is welcoming and efficient, making the meal flow smoothly even when the restaurant gets busy. The vibe is cozy yet lively — the kind of place that works for a casual dinner with friends, a date night, or just treating yourself after a long day.
Hachioji Craft & Vegan Ramen isn’t just about ramen, it’s about variety and balance — bowls that warm your soul, sides that surprise you, and a dining experience that feels thoughtful and delicious from start to finish. Definitely a spot worth bookmarking in LA’s endless food scene.
Tonkotsu black garlic ramen I had was possibly one of the worst. Broth was flavorless with excessive sodium, it tasted like a slaty favored water. Pork was the thinnest and driest ever. I couldn’t taste any hint of black garlic either. We asked for garlic on side, they gave us stale smelly garlic. My husband had creamy white vegan ramen which was also pretty bland. He added some hot sauce and miso bomb and finally tasted little better. We also got spicy tofu appetizer, it was a piece of raw silken tofu topped with chilli oil, some aromatics and chilli flakes, which was also with no surprise tasteless. I usually finish the broth over noodles because they are so flavorful. For the first time, I didn’t touch the broth after finishing noodles.
We will definitely not be going back.
