Best Japanese restaurant in the bay area. You got to try the Thur dinner – fresh fish from Japan. Ask for “chef’s selection” no menu free style dinner to get the best from the chef. We have been here 20+ times in the last five years.

**Pay no attention to the close-minded, 1 star reviews. We all know some people can be high-maintenance and too hungry.**

Came for dinner; stayed for Suzuki, Kim, and memories! We’ve never been to Japan, nor have we ever dabbled in traditional Japanese fare. And yet we were incredibly blessed to have our first experience with Suzuki and his entire team at Hachi Ju Hachi.

We tried the set menu for two, unmodified. Each item spoke for itself — the food was simple, yet you can taste all of the expertise, hard work, and passion that went into every dish.

The ambiance is quiet and relaxing. The love that is this restaurant is written on its walls — literally! The kitchen is exposed, and we were left in awe as we watched Suzuki and Kim present dish after dish to a hungry crowd. A meditative dance, if you will!

We decided to stay in Saratoga an extra night simply so we could come back to try Suzuki’s nigiri. I am speechless. Every piece of fish was absolutely delicious. There are no words for our second experience. You must come try for yourself!

Unfortunately a disappointing experience. The fish for the sashimi and nigiri was not fresh, had a very fishy taste and some pieces had a greyish color.

Every time I come here with my friends and family, we are always welcomed by the lively servers and chefs. The food is the finest quality Japanese food I have ever had in the area. They take their time and it shows with the presentation. I highly recommend this restaurant for some authentic Japanese food!

Wow.

Came in the early evening when the restaurant was still empty. Unassuming place where we didn’t really expect much.

Ordered Toro, a rice tea soup bowl with grilled pork myself.

Wow. Food was delicious.

Stop reading and just get over there.

We had the Kaiseki experience at Hachi Ju Hachi, and it was exceptional. Our table was in a small room next to the kitchen, connected by an open pass-through where Chef Suzuki prepared parts of our meal and engaged with us throughout the evening.

Every course was beautifully presented and delicious. The smoked cod was a standout, even for someone who doesn’t usually enjoy cod. The aged gari, miso soup, and a snapper soup with matsutake mushrooms were all excellent.

Service pacing was perfect, and the whole evening felt calm, thoughtful, and memorable. Highly recommended.

Best Japanese food in the Bay. If you like to taste the fish and not just spicy mayo, come here. If you want to try Japanese food that’s not Americanized, come here. Also the owners are lovely and there’s always room, hidden gem.

I liked the real Japanese style atmosphere, but it not a good sushi place definitely. I visited this place because my colleague recommended. However, as a sushi fan, this is no-go. Also, we needed to wait more than an hour for the first food.

Came here because of the good reviews but was disappointed with the quality of food. The atmosphere was not very inviting. We ordered Set B so we can taste 9 different dishes. The food arrived fairly soon but only 2 dishes stand out and the rest was ok. We added teriyaki chicken and grilled pork belly, they were nothing special as well. So overall the food is totally not worth the price.

Amazing! I lived in Japan for 3.5 years and the food here is fantastic. It’s very fresh, flavorful, and tasty — even for someone who has lived in Japan for a long time. We got the set a menu, and next time, we will get the set b menu to try more items. There were only two chefs and two waitresses for the night, so they were working really hard to make sure all of the orders were made quickly. They were also very careful due to Covid and has a lot of signs around everywhere to prevent the spread of Covid.
