There were 3 of us friends who split the food, where our server was helpful to make sure we knew that the serving size was intended for one person. The portion worked well to tide us between lunch and dinner.
We concluded our meal with ceremonial coffee that comes with incense, spiced coffee, and popcorn (that surprisingly goes so well with the coffee). The coffee was smooth and can be enjoyed black or with the white sugar provided. I’m not usually a black coffee drinker, but it was delicious here!
Decor is a mix of some Ethiopian art and some print art throughout, with some rustic details with the bar with lights. I would love to see them lean more into authentic Ethiopian art and aesthetics. Either way, lovely experience.

My partner and I have been enjoying Ethiopian food throughout our 12 years together, from Houston to DC to NYC. After years of having access to some of the best in Harlem, we truly missed it after moving upstate, where Ethiopian cuisine is scarce within 75 miles.
Today we decided to make the drive. After debating a trip back to our old Harlem favorite, we chose Habesha Ethiopian Restaurant in New Haven, CT. What a fantastic decision that was.
We arrived a little after 9:00 on a Saturday evening and were warmly greeted by Solomon, who we later learned is the owner. His kindness and hospitality set the tone for the evening. He even brought our 8-year-old a sample of a mango drink and offered us tastings of Ethiopian honey wine, which was lovely.
We ordered the Beef Tibise and Special Kitfo (tartare), and both were spectacular. The kitfo, in particular, was probably the best I have ever had. It was tender, perfectly seasoned, and complemented by fresh, rich cheese. The flavors were complex yet beautifully balanced, and the vegetarian sides were equally delicious.
The service here is truly something special, reminiscent of old-world hospitality. Solomon and his family go above and beyond to make guests feel appreciated and welcomed. It is clear they take deep pride in what they do.
Thank you for a delicious meal and your family’s hospitality. We will be back!
The food was absolutely delicious! My only comment is on the service, the waiter wasn’t very attentive, and we had to call him a few times for water and for the bill.
