Since 2009, H. D. Gibbes has offered entrées of steak, lamb chops and seafood served with homemade potato and vegetable casseroles every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. Live music, top-notch cuisine, and a unique dining experience draw customers in each weekend. Community seating, food served on paper plates and paper towels as napkins are all part of the Gibbes experience.

We picked out a spot we’ve never been before so this was our first time visiting. It was a pleasant experience. A Saturday evening, and it was a very cold evening. Thankfully they set us near a heater! The service was superb and the food was great. The steak was so good, and the leftover steak was just as good the next day. Also highly recommend the spinach dip and the shrimp appetizer.

An incredible dining experience!

The lamb chops were absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked—definitely worth the splurge. The ribeye was spot-on and didn’t disappoint in the slightest. As for sides, the squash casserole was amazing—comforting, flavorful, and a standout on the plate. The green beans were cold and not quite our taste, but honestly, no complaints—it just made more room for dessert!

Speaking of dessert:
• The buttermilk pie was the clear favorite—sweet, smooth, and unforgettable.
• The bread pudding was super moist and comforting.
• The brownie with ice cream was rich and satisfying—can’t go wrong with that combo.

H.D. Gibbes knows how to serve up a memorable meal. We’ll absolutely be back!

Great atmosphere with rustic antique vibes. Delicious and flavorful food. You want to try to get there when they open or soon thereafter unless you don’t mind a wait. The food takes a while to come out but our order was right and the food had lots of flavor and tenderness to the meats. Self serve for drinks – the honor system for getting a beer. You just keep your caps and bring the caps once you checkout. You can only pay wish cash or check. You can bring your own alcohol and they can bring you a glass for your own wine.

Nice steakhouse in an old general store. Pretty crowded, but things moved quickly.

I’m a first timer. Been wanting to go to Gibbes for years but never got around to it. Learned is a really old town in the middle of back woods Hinds county. Access roads are really crummy so take your time.
The restaurant/store is definitely local color eating with benches and old tables. Two dining areas screened no a/c and inside. Get there early. Two man band provided music.
Steaks are fine. Love the flavor and cooked just right. Salad is good with a great comeback dressing. Potato casserole is wonderful.

Fun rustic atmosphere in an old general store. Indoor and outdoor seating, and even in the middle of the summer the outdoor seating is comfortable. Always delicious food served on paper plates with friendly service.

Very interesting place with my first time there. My steak was perfectly cooked as a medium well which had a fantastic taste and this was one of my best experiences for a place in Mississippi. Found that H.D. Gibbes & Sons is a historic place with a unique atmosphere that will bring you back time and time again. Live music was great

Our first ever visit to H. D. Gibbes & Sons. We’ve heard about it plenty, but never found a good time to drive all the way out to Learned to try it.

The steaks were really good. The NY Strip was better than the ribeye, but both were among the best I’ve had in Mississippi.

The spinach dip with homemade bagel chips was epic. Way more spinach than I’m used to in spinach dip and it made me happy.

Best part of the night was the funeral brownie! Truly special dessert.

Service was good. It’s the sort of place where everyone is your server and you pay as you leave.

Only negative of the whole night was sitting near some out of control guests – and the Gibbes staff handled that well too.

We’ll be back!

16oz hand cut ribeye with baked potato and roasted green beans
14oz NY Strip with baked potato

Such a cool place to visit and enjoy. I’m active duty military visiting my mother who recently moved to the area from the west coast and she has been wanting to go. Well I’m so glad we did! Can’t get a steak like this in Japan (where I’m currently stationed) that was a pure grass fed American steak meal. Loved it. Staff was very generous and I really have nothing negative to say about this place. 11/10 would recommend
