Visited Gyu Kaku Japanese BBQ after a buddy recommended it as a solid Japanese barbecue spot. It was my first time here and even on a random Wednesday night the place was packed, which felt like a good sign. The wait was a bit long but understandable given how busy it was.
The menu is huge with a lot of options. They offer different dining packages and we went with the Ultimate option. Our server recommended the filet, ribeye, sirloin, Kobe beef, pork fat, and beef tongue. You can absolutely tell the meat quality is high end. Everything had great flavor and the Japanese barbecue style really shines since you can control the cook and get a perfect sear with medium rare bites.
The beef tongue ended up being our favorite, especially paired with rice and sauce. Edamame was solid and the cheesy corn was a nice comfort side. Overall the food quality was excellent and clearly premium.
That said, the price is steep. Expect around sixty five to eighty five dollars per person, and you are limited to about an hour and a half. For the price and time limit, it felt a bit overpriced compared to other barbecue spots where you get more time and value. Service was a mixed experience. Our server was clearly working hard and very busy, but a few items we ordered never made it to the table and we had to remind the staff. It did not feel like her fault as much as the restaurant being overwhelmed, but it did impact the experience.
Overall, great quality meat and solid appetizers, but the price point, time limit, and service gaps make it harder to fully recommend over other options in the area.

I think they will get 5 stars if they use better quality rice. Their customer service was amazing Orlando took care of our table good. The salad was delicious, Karaage was hot and juicy. We ordered Meat Lover course, we couldn’t finish to eat all the meat, so I grilled all and brought them home.

Went for weekday lunch where we shared 5 meats for $34 (2/$15 and 3/$19) as we weren’t sure if we were hungry enough for AYCE. I thought the quality of meats was pretty good.

The server had to be flagged down to refill our drinks and it wasn’t packed, but the other floating server was very good. I’m unsure if I’d do ACYE due to the service but I’d go back for lunch as it was a pretty good deal!

We’ve visited a few locations across North America (Canada and US). 4/5 for Food, Service and Atmosphere at this location, which is typically my rating for other locations. What we enjoyed about this location and all the others, is the consistency and quality of food and service. It’s pretty much the same everywhere, which we like…you know what you’re getting.

The flavors of food are identical. Although there is no preparation because you cook everything yourself, the presentation and cleanliness is critical. This location and all other locations are great for that. I find other “bbq”, “cook your own” places disgusting when they don’t treat the presentation with care, as it is RAW meat.

The service here was great. We are always pleased with the care and hospitality.

Went in for a reservation today at 5:15pm. Everything was good at first and we got the meat lovers they brought out all of the initial appetizers. They brought the edamame, chicken karage, miso soup, salad and rice. The problem came with the meats they only brought 3 out of the 6 meats out and the lower quality ones. I also ordered spinach with garlic and they did not bring that out either. We also never got s’mores as well towards the end. Overall we were missing 5 items. Manager came out and did apologize and gave us 15 percent discount but we did not get any of our meets. We overpaid for what we ate. They did not come check on us at all. Would have preferred to just get our money back. They were to busy tending to everyone else and didn’t even look at us. Terrible place . We used to come a lot but now know that this place is off my list completely to ever go back.

Solid spot for lunch. The Karaage Rice Bowl always hits — crispy chicken, good rice, and great chili mayo. The set comes with a salad with a bold dressing and a legit soup that rounds everything out. I’ve been here multiple times and it never disappoints. One of the few places actually worth stopping for.

I came here for Orange County Restaurant Week with my brother. Keeley was our server. She was awesome! Very attentive, friendly, helpful, and funny. We both did the Restaurant Week dinner special for $35 per person. It included Half Gyu Kaku Salad, White Rice, Miso Soup, 2pcs Gyu Sushi, choice of appetizers, choice of 1 BBQ set (guess which set I got?), choice of 1 veggie, choice of 1 dessert. Plenty to satisfy any hunger and craving. Meats were well marinated. Everything else was spot-on. The restaurant itself was kept clean. The ambiance was casual and fun. Give this a try for Restaurant Week for sure & you will be hooked to come back as regulars like we are!

Always a great experience here. Joe is a great server. He is always attentive and professional. The food is excellent. I miss dining inside but they have patio dining during the pandemic. Unfortunately, they only have 3 tables outside. Arrive early. It’s totally worth it.

Update: There is inside dining again. Food is still great. Service is still wonderful.

I’ve been to many different Gyu Kaku locations, but I’m still confused why it’s called Japanese BBQ when half of the food feels Korean-based. Honestly, it should just be called Asian BBQ. Haha-

Most of the time, I only come here for the harami and beef tongue. Everything else seems too pricey for the quality, and it’s been getting worse every year.

This particular location had the worst restroom I’ve ever used. I thought Japanese places were supposed to be clean, even if the facilities are a bit old. I’m surprised they’re still running the business with a restroom like that. It’s by far one of the worst restaurant restrooms I’ve ever seen. When you sit on the toilet, it makes a crazy unbalanced noise, and to level the drawer between the two faucets, they placed these strange round pads that looked unsafe and dirty. The soap dispensers were leaking, and that area was black and disgusting. Yet I still ended up paying over $110 for just two people.

I love Gyu-Kaku and the service here was very nice, but I don’t think I’ll be coming back to this location. Yuck!
