You cook everything yourself, which makes it such a fun and interactive experience. They offer all kinds of meat cuts — my favorites were the skirt steak and brisket. Also giving 5 stars to the fried rice with onions and beef — sooo perfect. Definitely a must-try!
I’ll for sure go back soon and bring more friends and family. It’s the perfect spot for big groups.
Only downside is you leave a bit sticky from the smoke, but honestly, no big deal. Bonus: they have an app you can download to earn points and get free food on future visits.
Can’t believe I didn’t know about this place before, easily one of the best spots I’ve found lately!
Without introducing herself or letting us know know she would ‘be taking care of us,’ Gwen??’ Took our order… we waited patiently and didn’t see her for a long time. We had ordered rice and the meat had come out, but no rice. We had to ask two different ppl for the rice before we received it.
Not only that, we had ordered the Hirami in a pot – which is our FAVORITE – but it never came…. Despite the table next to us getting TWO orders of it while we had our appetizers. Gwen came by and asked if we still wanted it. We were all pissed and said no. It’s extremely hard to get all of us upset, but she managed to do so.
It is clear to me that the place is super understaffed and space is limited… but knowing how many reservations you have should give you an idea of how many walk ups you can take.
This is the WORST service we have ever received at any Gyu kaku.
Your only saving grace was Cristian who had a positive, bubbly attitude all the time and would try to help us as much as possible; but he was not a waiter. He completely went above and beyond and should be commended for keeping a smile on his face, being cheerful, and checking on us… more than our waitress did.
Gwen was not cheerful, welcoming, cordial, or personable AT ALL. If that’s the vibe y’all are going for, you’re succeeding at it. We usually spend $75+ here. This is the first time we have spend less than $50 a person, declined more alcoholic beverages AND declined more food. Only because we wanted to get out of there. So sad.
The staffs are super friendly and nice.
Parking is not very convenient.
They have 1,000cc draft beer from Kirin Ichiban, which is super satisfying.
They have separate kids menu.
Highly recommend it, but make a reservation. The place get packed up.
Unfortunately, my DoorDash driver took an extra hour to pick up my order, but I will not factor that into my review. Unfortunately it did impact the overall quality due to my order sitting at the restaurant for awhile.
I ordered the Umakara Beef Rice bowl, which came with a side salad and miso soup. A decent amount of food for a reasonable price. The beef had a sweet and savory flavor. The additional sauce packets added an abundance of flavor. My favorite being the spicy jalapeño miso.
Gyu-Kaku is certainly more suited for dining in, as you can cook the meat on the little hot pot they have on the table. It’s a fun experience and would no doubt deserve 5-stars. That said, this is a take out review and it was pretty decent. I just personally think I’ll stick to eating at the restaurant.
Well. Great staff!
