There’s a gyu kaku in Iwakuni Japan, this is not a good American alternative. I’d recommend going to Kpot near four seasons instead!
But this past Saturday left us deeply disappointed: we found a fly in our soup.
The staff’s initial response? A 5% discount. That’s right—5% for serving soup with a fly in it. We were stunned. That doesn’t even cover the minimum tip.
When we asked to speak to the owner, he launched into a long justification about how a bowl of soup isn’t worth much, that it’s a buffet so we should be satisfied with 5%, and said, “I have no problem eating a fly myself.” He even told us not to make a scene because we were hurting his business, and that he “didn’t need our table anyway.”
After pushing back, we got the discount increased to 20%, but the entire exchange was rude and dismissive.
And unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time we’ve had issues here. Service for our table was often noticeably slower than others, and portion sizes looked smaller. On a previous visit, the same owner told me—a young Asian woman—that studying was pointless, and that the only way I could secure immigration status here was by marrying a rich man over 40. Completely inappropriate and demeaning.
We kept quiet in the past, but after this latest incident, it feels important to speak up. The food might be fine, but don’t expect accountability, basic respect, or fair treatment here.
We chose to try the small dishes instead of the Japanese barbecue and we didn’t particularly like the food. Except for the spicy tuna volcano and the shrimp with pepper and mayonnaise, the rest really tasted either too spicy or didn’t go well together. For example, the Gyu sushi, which is sushi with meat, doesn’t make sense. You try to eat it with the meat, but it falls apart, the meat is big and difficult to break up in your mouth (I had to ask for a fork and knife because I couldn’t eat it).
We came for lunch, and the crowd was minimal. Tony was a great waiter. He suggested good food items. He kept checking on us. The food was great. While I traditional do an AYCE Korean BBQ, here, with the small plates, we ordered a lot of different options and still left out full. It was cheaper than the all you can eat.
The large rice was honestly big enough for 3 people to eat off of. The fried bacon was yummy and the meat is already marinated, but some salt here and there makes everything perfect!
They have a lunch special now that brings us there weekly. 2 meats $15, 3 meats $18. It comes with rice, salad and soup!
Make sure to join their rewards program. We have definitely racked up on free meats.
Service was a little on the slow side but in my option in gives time for your rounds to kinda settle so your not over indulging to quick.
Out server Nathan was super friendly and helpful, offering great recommendations and always checking on us. Give that guy a raise
