We took a Saturday drive and made a delightful discovery in the small Ohio town of Gallipolis — a gem called GyrOH, serving Greek and Turkish street food.
We started with the hummus and ordered the combo platter, which was more than enough for two. The platter included three meats — chicken, lamb, and kofte — along with a flavorful pea salad, fresh Greek salad, and perfectly seasoned rice. For dessert, we couldn’t resist the baklava, which was the perfect sweet finish.
The prices were reasonable, the atmosphere was warm and family-friendly, and the staff couldn’t have been nicer. The owner even stopped by our table to share that the recipes came from his mother’s cookbook, which made the meal feel even more special.
We’ll definitely be back — our only regret is that this wonderful place isn’t closer to home!
I was shocked by how exceptional the Mediterranean food is here. What seems like a modest little restaurant surprises even the most dedicated fans of Mediterranean dishes.
I spent a little time talking to the owner Sammy to ask how he pulls off fine dining style meals at affordable counter service prices. He simply explained how he is using cherished family recipes and keeps things simple to make sure each flavor and texture works perfectly. And you know what, it does. All of it.
Every dish, and I’ve now eaten here three times this week, is as close to perfection as you can get. It’s honest food. Hand made every day, with an open kitchen so you can watch a master chef cheerfully make you a meal with love.
I’m smitten with this food and the service too. And I dare you to find better in any major city in the country.
I’ve pretty much eaten my way through their menu at this point and nothing has let me down. My go-to is still the beef & lamb gyro platter with extra tzatziki (real tzatziki, y’all… and it’s GOOOOOD!) and an extra side of the Mediterranean salad. The meat is always super tender, well seasoned, and cooked to perfection. Never had one single grain of undercooked rice. The salad is TO DIE FOR- literally the only way I will eat a raw tomato and be happy about it.
The portions are pretty big and very affordable. The beef & lamb gyro platter, my extra sauce & extra salad, and a bottle of pop comes to right about $20 before tip. I easily get two very decent sized meals out of it (I always intend to save the rest for lunch the next day but I never make it that far… I always eat it so fast).
Looking forward to eating here gets me through my weeks honestly. I have not shut up about it since I was told about it, nor do I plan to. Everyone around me knows when it’s gyro day. I make no apologies.
