**Gyotaku Japanese is an absolute gem!** We came here starving after a super tiring morning at Hanauma Bay, and this cute little place completely surprised us. We were greeted by a wonderful staff member who patiently explained the menu, which we really appreciated.
We ordered the chicken katsu curry, unagi nigiri, and a bento box with a California roll and chicken teriyaki. Everything was delicious! The katsu curry was incredibly flavorful and is an absolute must-try — I loved every bite. The chicken teriyaki was tender and juicy as well. The California roll was just okay, nothing special, but honestly we didn’t expect much from it anyway.
Overall, an amazing spot, especially if you’re craving katsu curry. Highly recommend!

Excellent dinner I had here. Everything from the appetizers to the main course was a delight to eat. Especially liked the chewiness and the broth of the udon. Katsu curry was also good with a kick of spice (chicken a bit fatty but still juicy). One thing I will note is that the service wasn’t very good and our waiter had a clear favoritism bias to regulars, which shouldn’t feel the case. This place has a local bias and it shows.

Had a wonderful meal here for Christmas with my family. The portions were generous and justified the expense.
Only complaint would be the restaurant is a tad loud but honestly it is well worth the taste. I got the poke with sushi rice and Tempura.
They are also VERY allergy conscientious which has been pretty rare on Oahu.

Everything we had was phenomenal
We went on Christmas (with a reservation) and it was such a nice experience. Our server was very kind and knowledgeable, and went above and beyond for food allergies.
The food was the best we’ve had outside of Japan, easily. Sushi rice is 10/10!

Family visit with the senior citizens worked out perfectly for the Early Bird special. Great deal for a decent amount of bento box food.

This is hands down the best Japanese food on the island. I can’t recommend it enough, especially the lunch specials

Gyotaku delivered a truly hearty and comforting meal. We ordered the unagi nigiri, tempura appetizer, chicken curry, and a bento with teriyaki chicken, and every dish was satisfying. The flavors instantly reminded me of my vacation in Japan. The tempura was perfectly crunchy and fresh, while the chicken curry arrived piping hot and was generously served with extra pickles just as requested.
Our server, Christian, was incredibly patient and courteous, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The ambience was warm and inviting, taking me right back to the cozy restaurants I visited in Kyoto. I loved the warmth of this place—both in the food and the service.

First off, the food was good for the most part, aside from cold/greasy tempura. Prices are high for what you get, even by Oahu standards. Host service was not very friendly. We ordered and waited nearly an hour for our food as we watched several other parties who arrived after us being served. You get the impression you will be most welcome here if you are:
* elderly
* local
* a “regular” (probably elderly and local)
Note, they charge extra for credit cards.

Beware of this place. The family went to dine in for the first time at this restaurant and the experience was so unpleasant we had to leave the place. At this horrible place, you get greeted at the front by a 3% charge warning sign if you use your credit card. We sat down and it was “kids eat free” day with a complete meal. We ordered 3 sushi rolls, a kids menu item, and a senior meal. I was told that the kids meal would not be free because we didn’t have a qualifying complete meal. I asked what the minimum charge was as it was already over $65 worth of food we ordered (not including the kids meal). Then I was told there is no minimum charge. This was confusing so then I asked how many meals do I have to buy to qualify as it advertised 1 complete meal that then authorizes a free kids meal. I told them that these were several complete meals we ordered and asked for a manager. She pointed out that only select meals off of the menu qualify. I then told her they should put that on the free kids meal menu. It is already difficult dealing with a 2-year old at the table to then be frustrated with having no meals qualify since they aren’t transparent about this on the menu. This is uncalled for and ridiculous. I told the manager that they should implement minimum charges or be forthright about what complete meals mean on the menus as I said sushi rolls and senior meals are all complete meals to us. We took our business elsewhere. They had an overpriced menu too; it would be better to go to Roy’s nearby for seafood or another place for sushi. No wonder the place was almost empty at 7pm; nobody wants to eat there and now I know why. Families should not be treated that way and told that their meals are not meals (then don’t list them on your menu as meals). The near empty restaurant should have been my next warning sign after the 3% charge on credit cards sign. No fancy restaurant will pass this charge on to the customer either (it wasn’t fancy but say this because the prices were listed as if it was a fancy restaurant). It was such a horrible and frustrating experience for our family and had to tell my toddler we will get food elsewhere. Stay away if you want a good restaurant experience. The manager wasn’t even empathetic to our situation knowing it was our first time there. For all of the meals we were wanting to buy she should’ve had the common sense to see that the more than $65 cost was more than what 1 of the qualifying meals costed. I live in the area and they just lost a customer for life and will not ever be recommending that place to anyone. Customer service lacks too; after sitting down we were not offered a booster seat or child seat for our 2-year old and even had to ask for that. Complete let down of a place I was initially excited to try out with the family.

We came from Arizona to spend seven days. Stopped in to check out the food and was pleasantly surprised. The hostess was very friendly. We had a short wait of about 5 minutes. They sat us down to a cute little table for two. The restaurant was clean and the atmosphere was beautiful. Our waitress was knowledgeable of the food on the menu. She never let our drinks get less than half full. Greeted us with a smile and positive attitude every time she checked in. The tempura shrimp and vegetables, soup, salad, noodles, rice and sushi was amazing! The portions were the right size and the price for what we got was very good. We will definitely return on our next trip to Oahu without a doubt. I’ll also tell everyone I know by word of mouth how well our dining experience was and quite possibly do a review video on my YouTube channel (jiujitsu2000). Thank you so much you guys did an amazing job!!! Mahalo!! 😉
