Walk into a Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken, and you’ll find walls adorned with vintage and neon signs, beloved classics humming in the jukebox, tables covered in blue and red checkerboard, and plates full of some of the very best fried chicken you’ve ever tasted. Our chicken, prepared using a recipe developed over sixty years ago by the Bonner family, offers the confounding combination of perfectly crispy skin and wonderfully juicy and tender meat. Additionally, our spices offer a kick without ever overwhelming your senses. All plates are served with beans and coleslaw, but feel free to substitute those with any of our sides, all of which are prepared in house daily. This is a new location and the chicken is OUTSTANDING!! Very moist, crunchy skin and the flavor is spot-on!! The sides are delicious and the greens are the best. Every time we stop in our servers are very nice, knowledgable and efficient. The whole crew is super happy and polite. I love this place and always look forward to visiting for a great fried chicken meal.

Made plans to meet up with relatives for a bite in Knoxville. We ended up getting there early. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. We ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes to hold us over until the rest of our party arrived. They were delicious. Once the rest of our crew arrived, we all ordered and everything came out really fast which was awesome since we were hungry for more than appetizers at that point. We were told about a secret item that wasn’t on the menu. Catfish is the secret item. The chicken tenders are massive have just the right amount of spice. The portions for sides are plentiful. I can’t say enough about how friendly the staff were. Definitely setting a high standard for service. Stop in and give them a try when you are in the area.

I have a baby-tender-mouth when it comes to spicy food, but I also LOVE fried chicken. How could I visit Tennessee and NOT try Gus’s chicken?
I read a lot of reviews trying to figure out how hot the chicken was, but couldn’t find a really good metric, so I just went.
I have to buy mild taco seasoning because regular/medium makes me cry. Gus’s chicken was spicier than mild taco seasoning, but not as spicy as medium taco seasoning. Hope that helps for those who are afeared of spiciness!
My sister got a meal with the basic sides – beans and coleslaw – the beans seemed to have a tomato/ketchup base, but she said the slaw was good.
I subbed fried okra and French fries. Nothing wrong with the okra, and the fries were nothing to rave about. Next time I’ll definitely opt for the “snack” rather than the meal.

We both ordered the famous Gus’s Chicken of course along with the sided of baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad and okra. Very fresh and warm and delicious. The tea was good too. Very clean. Our server was very friendly and professional and did a great job. We were served quickly. There was seating available without a wait. It was quiet and casual. Very affordable.

Went in for dinner tonight at the Lovell Rd. location. It’s a really nice location with plenty of parking. Our server Ella was very sweet to our kids and attentive to our table. I got a two piece white dinner. The chicken was fantastic. Spicy and crunchy outside and tender and juicy inside. The baked beans are fantastic with a slight green pepper flavor. Sweet and savory. The potato salad was really good. A really great meal washed down with the sweetest sweet tea I’ve ever drank. The girlfriend got dark meat and fried okra. The okra is killer with ranch dressing. Everyone was pleased with the meal. I honestly think this location is a bit better than Southerland Ave. location and less crowded. Either way though this is damn good fried chicken. I highly recommend a visit to Gus’s World Famous fried chicken.
