Have always heard good reviews about this place and I have to say their chicken is really good. I also tried their catfish which I don’t recommend. It was ok but have had better catfish. But the chicken is the perfect amount of spiciness. Hush puppies are probably some of the best I’ve ever had in my life and don’t get me started on their sweet-tater pie. I’d sell off my first born child for it. I tried to buy a whole pie but they unfortunately did not have a whole one.
Did learn a really cool thing about the place. They actually save all their leftovers overs everyday and donate it to the homeless shelters. Talk about really giving back to the community.
If your in the area definitely stop by and try some of their chicken. But be warned they stay busy. But with chicken that good I can understand.

Absolutely Outstanding First Experience!
Just had my first visit to Gus’s World Famous Chicken in Knoxville this past Saturday, and I am completely blown away! From the moment we walked in, we knew we were in for something special.
Our server Ben was absolutely incredible – truly the gold standard of hospitality. His enthusiasm for the menu was infectious, and his recommendations were spot-on. He took the time to walk us through their offerings with genuine passion, making us feel like welcomed family rather than first-time visitors. Ben’s attentiveness throughout our meal was impeccable, and his warm, friendly demeanor made the entire experience feel effortless and enjoyable.
And the food? Simply phenomenal. Every single bite lived up to the “World Famous” reputation. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside, and incredibly juicy on the inside. You can taste the care and quality that goes into every dish.
This is exactly what dining out should be – exceptional food paired with outstanding service that makes you excited to return. Never have I thought, oh this is the best chicken I’ve ever had, until I walked into Gus’s. Kim said Welcome Back! And I immediately felt at home. I ordered the 2 piece white meat plate that comes with a wing and a breast, slice of white bread, fried okra, and baked beans. 100% the best chicken I’ve ever eaten in my life. Also the best fried okra I’ve ever eaten. Literally
My new favorite restaurant. Kim is probably my new favorite waitress in this world, sorry Shirley, maybe tied for favorite. You will not regret it.

The food was hot and we loved everything we ordered. Pickle spears &Mac &cheese were great and the corn nuggets were delicious. Tenders were worth every penny and the traditional chicken had the perfect kick to it. Best fried tomatoes I’ve had too.
Overall though the people working the joint made it special and I would have loved to sit at the bar and just hung out

I expected hot chicken but there was no heat at all. HOWEVER, the chicken was AMAZING! So juicy and flavorful . Service was top notch ! Mac-n-cheese and fried okra was perfection ! We will be back !

Tonight I had dinner with a friend at Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken on Sutherland Avenue. We were greeted by a server at the door and told to sit wherever we liked. Once seated, our drink orders were taken quickly—I went with an IPA to pair with the fried chicken I planned to order.
I chose the 3-piece dark meat chicken dinner with fries. The fries were pretty standard frozen style, cooked fine but nothing special. The chicken itself was good—crispy and flavorful—but it wasn’t particularly memorable compared to other fried chicken I’ve had.
The service was friendly and efficient, but overall the experience felt average. Nothing stood out in a way that would make this a must-visit stop. Gus’s is fine if you’re nearby and want fried chicken, but for me it was more of a decent meal than a memorable one.

Husband loves this place. He thought the coolest thing was the big ice cold. Budweiser was in a glass, and they gave him a bag. He was just so happy about that. Our waitress was amazing, and it was the best service we’ve had in a while. We had to get our car serviced. So we thought we would try it, we will definitely be back. My husband loves this chicken haha.

Gus’s Chicken No kidding. Hot? It’s both, here’s what I’m saying, the spices are perfectly balanced to give y’all a bite of southern hospitality and the birds are served pipping hot! Fun? It’s Heavyn, that’s heaven spelled with a “y”greeted us at the door and explained the options with recommendations. I only hope she’s there for you when ya’ll stop by for Knoxville’s world famous fried chicken. Amy the manager stopped by and noticed we were veterans and made it a point to thank us for our United States Military service in the Navy. This place is literally a hoot! I most highly appreciate and recommend Gus’s to my family friends and fellow Veterans.
