The place has an upscale casual feel. The service is excellent, fast and attentive. The dishes are creative and delicious. The hash browns were perfectly cooked and the topping is outstanding. The croquettes didn’t have a lot of fish taste, the tomato sauce was great. The burger was outstanding, juicy, cheesy, the crust was a bit salty. The cheesecake was fluffy, creamy. Would definitely recommend!

Food was mediocre at best. Service was fine. Spacious. Mediocre across the board. Nothing bad at all. But also nothing remarkable. Seems popular with the locals.

The green salad was good. Crisp. Fresh. Good flavors. The hash browns were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Great creme fraiche dip.

The pork chop was small. You can sort of share it. The salsa verde was just okay. Not evenly cooked. One side was more tender than the other. Rather thin. A unremarkable dish I would. Very pedestrian. More like someone’s home cooking.

The gemelli pasta was okay. I can make the same dish at home. Just a few shavings of guanciale. Nothing bad about this dish. But again nothing remarkable.

The burger we saw on Instagram was good. But it’s a mix of beef and pork. The taste and texture is more like an Italian sausage. The slaw on top was good. But definitely not worth the trip to get to. Again, just mediocre food. I can make a more beefy burger at home.

The basque cheese cake was a tad overcooked. I think 15 min LESS in the oven would have resulted in a more creamy center. It was a big slice but it was dry. The texture was spongy and cakey overall. Not great.

The maple pie was the star of the entire dinner. It was light and velvety. There was a hint of brown butter. Not overly sweet. With a night amount of maple . The crust was flaky and crispy. The dollop of cream on top was just excellent. This was an incredible slice of pie.

Service was good overall. Water was filled. Dishes were taken away promptly. The wait staff were attentive. The bathrooms were clean.

But the food was overall underwhelming.

We hosted a private event at Gus’s (dinner after a city hall wedding) and had an AMAZING experience. The manager, Megan, was so helpful to work with throughout — she was a thought partner on food and decor choices, she coordinated with our other vendors, and most importantly made sure that the event itself went off without a hitch! The ambiance was on point and the food was DELICIOUS — all of our guests have been raving about it since then!! The staff was also super warm and helped make the event feel extra special. (An extra shout out to the bartender Andrew for cracking jokes all night). Highly recommend Gus’s under any circumstance!!

We love Popina so we had to try Gus’s. Been wanting to go since they opened up and damn they did not disappoint. The whole family loved every bite of food. We got a bunch of appetizers. We would have been satisfied just eating them. Sooo good. For entrees, the pork porterhouse had so much flavor and was perfectly cooked. Delicious. The burger was also one of the best I’ve ever had. Also, do not skip out on the desserts.

As always, this restaurant group always has great wines. The wine we ordered really put this meal over the top. A dining experience we will never forget.

5 stars for value. 5 stars for service 5 stars for food.

Wow! We hosted a private reception at Gus’s and it was PERFECT. The event coordinator, Megan, was phenomenal. She was very responsive to our emails and extremely accommodating + helpful. On the day of, she welcomed our guests in early, which she certainly did not have to do. She allowed them to set up decorations and added to the vibe with their candles and votives. We ordered a family style meal of a wedge salad, focaccia, arancini, lasagna, rigatoni, steak and chicken, fries, seasonable vegetables and salted maple pie for dessert. Everything was cooked perfectly and delicious! The lasagna, steak, and pie were the overall favorites. They accommodated the kids in our party and one vegetarian with a la carte meal replacements. This was our first experience here, and we will now be customers for life.

Easily the best steak I’ve had. They had a seasonal menu on with Brussel sprout sides and hashbrowns. All of it was perfectly put together and well thought out. Service was exceptional and the vibe was friendly. The waiter we had really went above and beyond and it made it a great experience.

The steak was the star of the show and I can’t recommend it enough.

This may have been one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Seriously this burger is juicy and savory, the pickles and sauce add a bit of sweetness and sourness and the flavors meld together beautifully. Some fresh heirloom tomatoes as a side dish and a pulpo (octopus) appetizer with the burger for two was sufficient!

In the heart of Brooklyn’s Carroll Gardens, a neighborhood celebrated for its gastronomic vibrancy and historic charm, Gus’s Chop House stands as a monument to culinary dedication and craftsmanship. Marrying the grandeur of European chop houses with the familial warmth of casual bistros, this establishment beckons one and all to partake in a dining experience that feels both grounded in tradition and passionately inventive.

Their mastery in culinary arts is palpable in each shareable appetizer, offering a symphony of flavors which tenderly segue to the following acts that are no less remarkable. It is the meat dishes that stand as titans in this culinary narrative, a befitting crown to its European chop house inspiration. The pork chop and the steak bring with them a rich decadence, echoing stories of the finest, meticulously sourced ingredients brought to life with revered culinary techniques. There is an unspoken grace in the brown butter basting, a gesture that imparts a rich depth of flavor, elevating the meat to celestial heights of gastronomic joy.

Yet, the conversation of meat at Gus’s is far from complete without mentioning what is possibly one of the best burgers gracing NYC. This isn’t merely a burger but a thoughtfully crafted blend of ground beef and pork adorned with cornichons and parmesan. The patty exhibits an understanding of the sublime, a testament to the care and knowledge infused in choosing the perfect blend. Accompanied by fries — golden beacons of crisp perfection, thick-cut and generous — the burger showcases an effortless marriage of refinement and comfort, establishing itself as an imperative experience for any culinary enthusiast.

The finesse of the culinary journey finds its harmonious complement in a Wine List that not only stands as the best in Carroll Gardens but beckons to be renowned much beyond. Offering treasures from the Old World, the list carries within it a curated homage to vineyards that have mastered the art of winemaking through generations. Every sip promises a narrative, a journey through famed terrains offering a perfect accompaniment to the meal, enhancing each note and offering a depth of complexity that is both invigorating and comforting.

Gus’s Chop House is not just a dining establishment, but a living, breathing entity that carries within its walls a pulse that is vibrant, warm, and unapologetically honest. It’s a homage to the age-old traditions of European chop houses, a celebration of the casual bistro vibe, and a testament to the potential of a neighborhood restaurant to not just serve food, but to offer an experience that is rich, satisfying, and heartwarmingly authentic.
