Gumby’s Pizza – Columbia, MO
I was working in Columbia last week when a few coworkers suggested we stop by Gumby’s Pizza for lunch. Located downtown near the Mizzou campus, Gumby’s is a well-known local spot that’s popular with students and residents alike. As with most downtown areas, parking can be a bit of a challenge, so plan accordingly.
At first glance, the restaurant looks small from the outside, but once you step inside, you’ll find it surprisingly spacious. When you walk in, you’re greeted by specials posted throughout the entrance area. We arrived right around noon and, to our surprise, we were the only group dining at that time.
Orders are placed at the counter, where we were helped by a woman who was absolutely fantastic–friendly, patient, and accommodating, especially considering that several people in our group were visiting for the first time. After ordering, you can choose to sit at a booth, high-top table, or at the bar. The atmosphere is casual and inviting, with TVs throughout, a music machine, and even a pool table for entertainment.
Since I’m currently following a fasting diet and skip breakfast and lunch, I ordered my meal to go so I could enjoy it for dinner. Having had plenty of pizza the night before at Shakespeare’s, I decided to switch things up. I went with a pound of boneless wings–half buffalo, half mango habanero–and added a side of beef toasted ravioli. One of our local coworkers also ordered the XL cheese bread for the table, and I can confidently say, based on both this visit and past experiences, it’s easily in my top three for cheese bread anywhere. Everyone in our group was happy with their food, from the pizzas to the other menu items.
Overall, Gumby’s is a spot l’ll continue to visit whenever I’m in Columbia. Great service, solid food, and a laid-back vibe make it a go-to for a casual meal downtown.

Cannot belive what happened beyond disgusted! I ordered a large anchovie to have with my brothers and they gave me sausage? Nevermind ordered the atomic wings and they didn’t even give me any zest. It could be described as pitiful… I have been a customer here for decades. Gumby’s faithful they called me… Ha! SAD! Do not spend ur money at this establishment folks! Stay far away!!

Get your hours right online everywhere is different. Workers are rude answer the phone and hang up. Just done with this place it’s went to straight garbage since Covid. Kept calling at 10:30 to get a pizza no answer then they would pick up and just set there. Online says closes at 12. So stopped by at 10:45. They said they close at 12 but they wasn’t making pizzas any more but there are people there waiting for pizzas. They say they are only selling slices. Help this make sense. Then the person behind the counter wowser very confused individual.

Gumby’s is my favorite tasting pizza in Columbia! HOWEVER, over a year ago Gumby’s told the City Commission for People with Disabilities that they planned to replace the “ramp” they currently have setup. I am surprised no one has totally faceplanted coming down the piece of sheet metal they have setup at a terrifying angle. Even a longer temporary ramp would make a positive difference, but I have not seen any evidence of an attempt at doing what they promised

Hate to leave a bad review for you guys, but the last couple of times I’ve gotten pizza from this location it has been undercooked. I love all the toppings, the menu, the vibe and the staff but man you gotta be able to actually cook the pizza. I just ended up taking the toppings off and eating them because the entire pizza was half cooked. I am not into biting into raw dough, not my forte. Sorry, maybe it has to do with y’all’s employee turnover. Probably won’t be trying again unfortunately. Good luck.

I asked Kathy her recommendation. Before I could even finish my question, “The Stoner”, cut me off. Pepperoni, bacon, French fries, and I think cheese curds?! D-licious!!! Great location, fun atmosphere and super friendly staff. Highly recommend Gumby’s!
