I haven’t been down College Avenue in Kentfield in about 30 years, so when my old pal Hark DèAngel call and asked me for dinner at the Guesthouse Marin Restaurant I had a flood of memories return…mostly good. It was Hark that sold me my first ocean pilot house, the Wicked Beaver a nasty but capable craft, and named after his ex-wife. I used it for salmon runs up the Sonoma coast, but sold it for a larger trawler that Hark christened the Nasty Beaver in keeping with the spirit of his ex-wife. So in memory of the Wicked Beaver…both of them, Hark and I ordered the salmon dinner, and it was amazing! 5 ☆☆☆☆☆ for sure!

Absolutely loved our dinner at Guesthouse Marin!
We started with the Cocktail Puffy Shirt, a fun and flavorful drink made with rum, mezcal, pineapple, orgeat, lime, and bitters. Refreshing and perfectly balanced.
The kale salad was crisp and vibrant with shaved kale, crispy shallots, sesame, pecorino a great starter.
The highlight for me was the wild mushroom gnocchi pillowy, earthy, and full of depth with chard, chili, and an intoxicating truffle butter aroma.
We also had the wood-grilled king salmon, beautifully seared and served over a creamy corn succotash with sweet red pepper and a bright herb sauce on top. It was flavorful, seasonal, and satisfying.
Can’t wait to come back again!

My wife and I celebrated our wedding ceremony with a meal here and the entire experience was phenomenal. The entire Guesthouse team was lovely and kind, creating a memorable experience and atmosphere we will never forget. The food, the drinks, the service and the hospitality were top notch.

Hostess was rude and entitled. We were among 10 others waiting outside for the restaurant to open. At 5 p.m., the hostess pushed open the door roughly 6 inches and let it slam shut – presumably our indication that we could now come in. No “Welcome, glad you’re here” no holding the door for the first person to enter. Just a slam in our face. Food is good as it should be for what you pay. Wait staff was very nice. Get rid of the lady’s attitude at the hostess station and this place would be a solid 4.5 stars.

The ambiance was nice, and the food was really good. The ahi tuna tartare was especially delicious, our favorite appetizer. The steak was perfectly cooked, and the service was excellent and friendly. They change their menu occasionally, which is nice because you can try different dishes. I prefer seating outside when available because there’s more space and it’s not as loud. Seating inside is also nice, but when it’s crowded, you get too close to the person sitting next to you, if seating at the two-person tables.

Great all round experience. Excellent service, quick and very professional. Food was very good if a little under seasoned. Disappointed there was no bread offered, and the toast pieces with the tuna tartare looked like they were out of a packet. Steak was properly medium rare, and delicious. A little pricey but, you have to pay a bit more for quality these days, so not unreasonable.

Finally had a chance to try this wonderful addition to the Marin dining scene. Everything working on all cylinders. Great host nabbed us a prime table in the lively dining room. Service spot on for stellar martini (Plymouth), oysters (Canadian), Caesar salad, saffron rice balls, followed by wild salmon with beans and mashed potatoes, and dazzling chicken sandwich with crisp fries. Took cookies to go. Compelling wine list. Ready to return soon. Reservations best bet.

Caution: Make sure you call when booking a table. We booked a they ended up putting us in their outbuilding where the chairs are worn old office chairs and the tables are unstable. This was in the middle of winter. At no stage in the booking which we did online and then via telephone did they tell us we would be seated here. To make matters worse we were the only people out there and the staff came and ate their meal in the back playing on their phones and burping loudly after their meal. Yes we spent $700 on a meal under these circumstances. So don’t ever book online and only confirm it is inside the main building. This shows a distinct lake of integrity!!!!!

This is a beautiful restaurant. Great ambiance. Great menu. Great service. Great food. All around great. I went for dinner and it was a packed house. Everyone in the room were enjoying their food and drinks. Chatter from all corners. It was a bit loud.. but I was still able to have my own conversations with my husband and daughter. It was a lovely evening/dinner. I will be back!!

Each person in our party had to send the food back because it was either undercooked, cold or dry. The service was good. The ambiance WAY TOO LOUD. Terrible acoustics. I will not return. Too high maintenance. It was anything but relaxing.
