The service was pretty good. That day they were short staffed, so they had one of their bus boys not only serving as the hostess, but also functioning as a server. He took our order, he got it, right, and the food didn’t take too long to get to us. I would say that the food was pretty good. A place that says that it’s authentic Mexican food I kind of expect to seem more authentic. This seemed more Tex-Mex style of Mexican food, and there’s nothing really wrong with that. I just expected authentic. Really unique Leigh decorated interior. Be careful if you sit in the area that’s somewhat elevated both my wife and I nearly tripped and we went down the steps.
Ok, I had the carne adobada plate, and my wife had the relleno playe. The calabacita was different since it’s mostly roasted but good. The refried beans are ok, but if you add salsa on top, they taste better. The carne was at a perfect spiced medium to hot, but the relleno’s breading outside was burnt. No muy Bueno. Great service, nice atmosphere. Fair prices, so this place is worth a try once, by the way the sopapillas were delicious. The decision is yours to make to try it. If we go there again, I will update it as well.
Test kitchen on main st. Went by for the first time, and the place is clean and comfortable. I ordered two burritos, one carne adovada, the other a combination. The combo was better tasting than the other, but what didn’t appeal to me was the price for each of them. They were too small and overpriced for a testing kitchen. I’m not sure if I would be returning. Maybe.
We were in Clovis for three days this week and I went to Guadalajara for a meal EVERYDAY!! The staff was warm and welcoming and the food was just like I remembered. Delicious homemade salsa and unlimited chips. Ground beef enchiladas with red sauce are my favorite. The guacamole is fresh and without extenders (onions, tomatoes, sour cream, etc). And then there is the grand finale…sopapillas with honey. So yummy! So perfectly hot and fluffy.
Sounds like this test kitchen is just a warm up for a great restaurant next to Big Lots…coming soon! Can’t wait to check it out next time I am in town.
Thanks Mike, Kirsty, secret sopapilla maker in the kitchen and the rest of the staff. We love Guadalajara!!!
