Been by this place many times. Decided to stop by and check it out. We got there around 745 on a Sunday and it was perfect because it wasn’t crazy yet. The waitress was great. Food was “ok” not sure if we’d go back.

The bartender was great. I ordered a half order of biscuits and gravy with eggs and potatoes, Eggs over easy. The eggs were medium too hard. And I got it to go and I got a 4 ounce ramekin of gravy that barely covered two of them. The biscuits were dry and dense. I would not recommend this place for breakfast to my enemies. Do better

Absolutely loved our visit to this spot on Sixth Avenue in Tacoma! The food was delicious — the sourdough French toast was unbelievably fluffy, the breakfast burrito was packed with flavor, and the mimosa hit just right. The service made the experience even better; the servers were warm and attentive, and the entire team created such a welcoming vibe. It’s always a bonus when the food is amazing and the people are kind. Can’t wait to come back and try more from the menu!

Also, they are actually open until 5! So don’t be fooled by the hours on Google, their website or the door!

Yesterday was another trip for PT and to modify the exercises yet again after they went terribly wrong three weeks ago. They were too much, too soon. Then it was off to find breakfast.

The Best of Pierce County competition is going on right now, so what better thing to do but go to the places who have been nominated and check them out. This is how we discovered Grit City.

Caleb, the bartender and our server, greeted us immediately and gave us our choice of tables. There was only one other customer so that was easy.

Menus, water and coffee were brought to the table. Caleb came back after checking on his other diner and bar customers and took our order. I ordered Chicken Fried Steak, scrambled, and breakfast potatoes, with sourdough toast. Ray ordered Smothered Breakfast potatoes and added 2 scrambled eggs. Caleb asked if we would like cheese on our potatoes and we both said yes.

Our meals came out quickly and made to order. I asked if my eggs had cheese. Caleb said yes and that they were mixed into the eggs. I could see the cheese mixed in with Ray’s eggs and could definitely taste cheese which I could not taste in my eggs. Not a deal breaker.

The kitchen must have the same toaster as mine at home where you have to push the button more than once. My toast was more like warm bread, not a deal breaker but definitely not toasted. The chicken fried steak was very good. Crispy, but not overdone, with flavorful gravy.

Ray didn’t say too much about his breakfast. There was an ample enough serving that he was able to bring some home. No complaints but no raves either.

The coffee was good and strong, just the way I like it. Ray liked his too.

When Caleb brought the check I told him my eggs did not have cheese in them. I also told him I was not going to die on the hill of a $.99 add on; I just wanted him to know cheese had not been added. Caleb immediately removed the charge and afterwards realized he had cooked us our coffee as well. A very nice gesture, thank you.

The service was good, the background music was made up of almost all of my favorite songs from the 70’s, and not so loud as to make conversation impossible.

I would be willing to come back and explore some of the other menu options. Thank you to Caleb for great service and attentiveness.

I’ll start by saying the service here is always great, I’ve never had a negative experience with a staff member here and they’re always happy to help. However, as a vegetarian I am not pleased with the fact that the owners seem to be stripping the menu of options I can enjoy. My favorite breakfast item here has been the impossible sausage, but upon trying to order this morning I was told they no longer carry it. Unfortunately, given the now limited options, I’ll have to find a new regular place to go that doesn’t try to ostracize vegetarian eaters like myself.

I’ve been coming to get the breakfast burritos here for years but they took away the vegan sausage. It was the best. Now I have to find a new vegan friendly breakfast spot. But the staff is amazing and super nice both over the phone and in person.

Ordered grit city breakfast online. Suppose to come with 2 eggs. Instead of 2 eggs I got scrambled. If wanted scrambled eggs I would of ordered scrambled eggs. Will not order from them again. Also suppose to come with their breakfast potato rounds and got homefries instead. Like I said will not order from them again. Let’s me think this isn’t even my order all together.

Was lookin for some good breakfast food and thought ok menu looks good. From the moment we walked in I had a good feeling. Got me a crown and coke and asked for a burrito dealer’s choice and the rest of the table had biscuits and gravy. Plates come out lookin hella good an instead of doing what I usually do and getting a pic of the beautiful food I jumped in when she (wish I could have been polite enough to ask her name) said I have a “Smothered Comfort” and had to take a bite! Hell half way through I said “WAIT! PICTURE!” Only some of the biscuits and gravy were left and what I had left lol! Definitely on my regular favorites now! Great way to anyone’s heart is through that awesome food and service! Thank you!

Had a really rough night and everything felt like it was going wrong. I was hungry and looking for a breakfast spot when I found Grit City Breakfast & Grill open — and I’m so glad I did.

The breakfast and coffee were delicious, the place was calm and not loud, and the customer service was amazing. The girl who helped me was very courteous and kind. It honestly changed my mood and the start of my day in the best way.

Too bad I had to go to work — but I’m definitely coming back for mimosas soon. Can’t wait!
