Meanwhile, I noticed several customers lingering around waiting for their food and nothing was coming out. I noticed the employees, all females laughing, joking and taking pics of the meat on the grill as it cooked.
After 20 min I walked up and the cashier remembered me and started to prep my to-go plate. I reminded her I only wanted a little bit of rice but with more chickpeas. As she poured a white sauce over the rice, she asked me how much i wanted so I told her a little bit and as she poured it I stopped her once I saw it was good. Well, she put that plate aside and a minute later she puts beef kabob and gives it to another guest who was waiting on their order. She made 3 more to-go plates and tells the lady cooking the meats that she needs a double chicken order, but more meats kept coming out and going to other customers.
Meanwhile, someone spoke in Spanish and says to the other workers about me “he looks upset because he’s been waiting too long”… so after another 5 min of waiting I had enough of the restaurants inability to quickly make food and deliver it in a timely manner. In a FOOD COURT!!
I walked up to the cashier in a visibly upset manner and requested a refund, she knew by my face that I was unhappy in how slow their service was. She apologized and understood.
The initial cashier who was now trying to help prep plates said in Spanish to the other cashier that his food was coming and to not give me a refund, I told them that I’ve waited enough and to give me my money back. One of the other cashiers said in Spanish out loud several times that “he’s right, he’s been waiting too long and his food is still not done yet”..
The employees went back and forth in not wanting to give me a refund but I stuck to my guns and eventually received my refund receipt. I told them it was unacceptable for a customer to be waiting for 25-30 min for chicken kabobs that are on an open flame, they only needed several minutes to ensure it’s fully cooked but they couldn’t understand basic food prep and a lack of customer service. I also told them how they’re all joking, laughing, taking pictures of the food and not actually working.
If you want a group of untrained employees who can’t tell when a slender piece of chicken is done while it’s fully on an open flame and the rest of the food is already prepared then come here and get some crappy service. All these employees need to be retrained. I don’t know how good or bad the food is as I didn’t have it. I do not recommend this place.
I left here and walked 10 feet to Chipotle and got me a quick meal.
We used to love grill kabob, but it’s really gone downhill. Such a shame.
Aside from that the person making my order using a her phone while making my sandwich touching her phone with the same gloves she is making the food. And when asked to please give me a new one because is unsanitary the employee gets mad and gave me attitude….. this restaurant’s are now expensive and also nasty with the tipe of employees they now have. I’m ashamed the say I used to work in one of this places….
Ive been coming to this kabob place for 20 years since before mall was renovated. When we come to visit my mom in Alexandria, we ALWAYS stop by here to eat or bring home a platter to Pennsylvania. Meat is moist. Rice and bread good. Kabob Palace in Crystal City one of my other favorites , but it’s far from my parents so we go to the mall. I also love the Afghan spinach. That in itself with rice is a meal.
