Reviews
The food was fresh, flavorful, and wonderfully light. The cauliflower soup was especially memorable, incredibly smooth despite having no dairy. We appreciated how satisfying everything was, especially before catching a red-eye flight.
Huge thanks to our local friend Wilder for recommending we try Greens. We are so glad we were able to get a last-minute Sunday reservation and experience this San Francisco gem.
We were treated to a beautiful sunset in the dining room. The quality of the lighting, wood features, spotless windows, and acoustics in the dining room contributed to a meal that was utterly remarkable.
For the food, we savored the depth of flavors on the butternut squash pizza and grilled polenta. The spring rolls were the weakest of the dishes.
The hosts were so kind to us and showed genuine interest in seating us. The service was nothing short of professional. Greens is a true San Francisco gem.
Highly recommend:
Fresh Pasta: Incredibly simple yet bursting with flavor — you can truly taste the freshness. I couldn’t stop eating it!
Khaman Dhokla: A rare and delightful surprise on the menu. Most places serve mediocre versions of this Gujarati favorite, but this one instantly reminded me of my mom’s cooking. I loved the creative twist with roasted vegetables (though I’d have preferred something lighter than eggplant). Hats off to the chef!
Just okay:
Green Corn Soup: Appetizing but not particularly memorable in presentation or taste.
Black Sesame Mousse: Great concept and nostalgic, reminiscent of sesame laddus back home, but lacked the distinctiveness you’d expect from a standout dessert.
Overall, this restaurant is a shining example of how good vegetarian food can be — I’m so glad I had the chance to dine here!
You could say you’re paying for the atmosphere but while the views were great, the atmosphere/decor inside feels incredibly dated. 24 dollars for a tofu scramble is not something I’d pay here again. The 6 dollar corn bread is definitely something I’d get again. We also got a bahn mi and soft grits.
We were seated quickly though and the service was great. Food came fast.
I’d say if you’re looking for a nice vegan/vegetarian experience, there are better options.
And if you’re looking for something more casual, this would be better suited however the price point doesn’t match the experience.
There is a reason this place has been around since 1979. It deserves to be.
Was it an accident we ended up here for my birthday dinner when it was thought we were going somewhere else?
Serendipitous fate is how I see it in every aspect.
We got a window table with a spectacular sunset view, service was extremely attentive (swapping our plates perhaps more than necessary, but I appreciate the intention), and the food…
How can I possibly describe it?
Well…I bought the cookbook and complimented chef Katie personally if that says anything.
It was like food art in presentation and taste experience.
One appetizer was so good we immediately ordered a second one. You should go and figure out which one it was before it’s not on the menu anymore.
Because it is seasonal food selections, we indulged as much as physically possible. We filled our bellies to the top.
I look forward to returning as soon as possible. I wish there could be more than one location, but understand having just one allows total focus on delivering only the best of everything they can.
Hats off to everyone working there. You are spectacular!
