We happened upon the most adorable, old-fashioned little diner–and what a gem it turned out to be! Originally opened in 1923 as a combination drug store and diner, this place is now over a century old and still full of life. With its rustic “greasy spoon” vibe and warm Southern charm, it feels like stepping back in time in the best way possible.

The menu is packed with classic diner favorites–think juicy burgers, grilled cheese, crispy onion rings, fresh salads, hearty meatloaf, French fries, and even fish. There’s something for everyone, all served with a nostalgic twist.

Our server, Connie, was an absolute delight–genuinely friendly, welcoming, and full of personality. It’s rare these days to find a place that preserves both the atmosphere and flavors of yesteryear, but this diner does it beautifully.

We absolutely loved our visit and can’t wait to return. Places like this are few and far between!

We loved our meal here.
Staff were super friendly and visited with us outside after dinner. They told us about local car shows. They have a large wall mural outside where you can get photos of your family or cars.
Good home cooked food.
Everyone loved what they got.
Our server was amazing.

My morning started with a wonderfully busy breakfast after a long holiday! The kitchen was a little low on stock, so we were out of a few of my favorite things. Despite that, the atmosphere was so vibrant and fun. I truly enjoyed the delicious food that was available. I will definitely be going back for a second visit soon.

Love this little eatery. Good home cooked meals and lots of tradition. Some of the prominent East Tennessee public figures frequent the place as well. It’s just such a good place to set down and have a good meal.

Came here with a group of people. The service and food was really good. Gotta love family/Ma & PAs places like these. Food is made with love and the service is like family. Everyone in our group was very pleased with the food and service. I had the BLT. Oh that was so good. The bacon was well portioned and “CRISPY”! Which I love. Definitely recommend stopping by. The owners even told us to get our cars picture on the side of the restaurant. We got some cool pictures. Thank you!

Went to the Greenback Diner yesterday morning for breakfast. Even though the diner was nearly full, we found a couple of stools at the dining bar and enjoyed a wonderful meal. I had the Hillbilly with eggs sausage, potatoes & sausage gravy over a biscuit. I could not finish it! My wife had the Giant Pancake and boy they weren’t kidding. It was huge! The food came out without delay and was very tasty. Both waitresses came by to check on us & even chat a little. The atmosphere was welcoming, “down home”, and a very happy place to be. I highly recommend you try the Greenback Diner. I know we will go back!

Greenback diner is a great small town restaurant. Their food was good and fresh off the grill. We got the BLT and Philly sandwich with onion rings which were both good. We got the munchers and they were just ok. I knocked a star because we weren’t acknowledged when we came in for a while and weren’t sure if we seated ourselves, and it took over an hour to get two sandwiches. We almost decided to leave because it took so long. If it were to take that long everytime we probably wouldn’t come back, but the food was good. The tables probably need a little updated but the restaurant was clean.

This is the kind of place that diners strive to achieve. The food was simple yet delicious, the people were friendly, and the restaurant atmosphere was cozy and relaxed. You know it’s a good place when you see the local law enforcement eating there lol. We had the hamburger with “munchers” (crispy tater tots), and a chicken salad sandwich. And their Sweet Tea is delicious!

Restrooms: Only 1 unisex restroom, but very clean and well-kept.

Stepping into this place is like taking a trip back in time — a genuine slice of small-town living that any traveler will appreciate. Open for over 100 years, it’s full of charm and nostalgia from the moment you walk through the door. The food is simple, no-frills, and downright tasty, served up quickly with the kind of friendly service that makes you feel like a local. It’s the perfect stop to slow down, enjoy a hearty meal, and experience a bit of Americana the way it used to be. A must-visit for anyone who loves history, comfort food, and genuine hometown hospitality!
