Although I’ve visited this restaurant several times, I continue to find the food underwhelming.

The dishes are consistently bland and lack flavour, which is especially disappointing given the high prices. Their cakes are decent, but forgettable.

I can, however, praise the service. The staff are friendly and professional.

There are plenty of cafes in the Heidelberg and Mannheim area that are far more committed and put in more effort. I really don’t get the hype for this place when the food is merely average.

But I do wish them well and hope they make improvements. It’s also possible their style of food just isn’t for me.

The green tea cheesecake was delicious. This decadent piece of cake was very tasty, but not too sweet. Furthermore the matcha latte (i had oat milk) did not disappoint either. Extra pluspoint was that the drinks were hot, since I dislike lukewarm drinks.

Matcha here is authentic, unlike the ones I’ve had in other places, and the desserts are tasty and not too sweet

Probably the most delicious green teas in all of Heidelberg!

Food & Drinks:
– vast selection of delicious Japanese green teas, served in traditional little tea pots
– beautifully served, vast selection of sweets and savoury foods (such as sweet cakes and savoury onigiri or takoyaki, etc.)
– same selection of teas, prepackaged to buy and to brew at home

Service:
– friendly, attentive
– kind, welcoming

Location:
– in the middle of Heidelberg city centre or the old town
– easy to get there with public transportation
– some seats inside with air conditioning / heating
– some seats outside on the street in the shade, calm because cars are not allowed in that section of the street

Personal Highlight:
– Fukamushicha, one of my favourite green teas, and fresh takoyaki and onigiri

A lovely little Japanese tea house and tea shop that also serves fresh Japanese snacks.
Also a great shop to simply buy tea to brew at home.

Update: came on a Saturday, just when they just opened. It was nicely empty, so I recommend to come early. I was with two small kids this time. And they were welcomed warmly, I then noticed they have a children corner with books, that’s another plus point! We tried dango, and we were very satisfied about it! I really can just highly recommend this place! It’s my favorite tea spot in Heidelberg!

I was here twice in just one week. The tea and food were not only nicely presented but was also very tasty. I had Takoyaki before and I wasn’t a fan, trying this cafes Takoyaki changed my mind though! The Japanese grandmas were very kind and attentive. It’s a self service cafe, so it means you order, pay, you take your sit, they will bring you the food, you can refill hot water inside and when you are done you bring your dirty plates back inside. For the first time I had Sencha, Soba, Takoyaki and matcha cake roll, it costed around 21€. For the second day I had Sencha, Takoyaki, Udon and Dango, I also paid around 21€. I find the pricing fair. I will surely come again!

Lovely place – would go everyday to enjoy delicious tea served in a Japanese fashion by Japanese people. It gave me the same feeling of Mom-and-Pop tea spots across Japan. おすすめです Enjoy!

Kawaii ,

I love authentic shops . Almost everything is authentic Japanese, even the workers . I go here to practice my Japanese by speaking to the workers there . You can also buy their thee leaves and take things with you (food that is, not sure about the drink). I go there every once in a while. Oh but good to know that you can pay by card if your order is a minimum of €10,- otherwise you pay by cash . Nearby is a nice playground for children ‍♀️. Further down the street you can find the Asian supermarket as well. Otherwise go in the alley upwards and you come back to the main street of Altstadt ‍♀️.
