Fire food but something more important is also great about this place.
The fact is that consistency matters.
I’ve been here over a dozen times. Every time the food is great and the service is fast, helpful and friendly. The staff is always talkative and welcoming. And nowadays that is rare. There are a lot of workers at high stress jobs that come in for lunch. This staff is very kind and make you feel like you really taking a break from a heavy work day to relax, and enjoy a meal with friends. Don’t get your food to go. Get your platter and pudding then sit, chill, and enjoy the experience.

Not too many real five stars out there to be given but GSSM hits every mark. Tried a couple meats, couple sides, couple beers, couple bourbons. Prices are very good for the location and quality of food / drinks. Serving size is spot on and deliver value for the price. Great concept for seating and the service of food and drinks. Creating separate streams for flow keeps everything streamlined and service moving. Community tables are spaced adequately and provide room for one person or twelve people. Can flip from low key alley spot to sports bar by turning on a couple discreet screens which is awesome.
Don’t hesitate to stop by if you like great BBQ in a low-key modern space with great beer selections.

Absolutely loved this spot. The smoked meats were tender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned—especially the brisket. Service was friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere had a cool, dimly lit industrial vibe that made the experience even better. Great place for quality BBQ in Chicago. Highly recommend!

It is a good place to try for barbecue. Good drink options. There is no table service as you treat it more like a market and you pick up the options and the. Seat. So line up pick your options, pay and wait for your meal. The Bar is a good option to get drinks and eat. The meats are juicy and warm. The cornbread is good but my favorite was the baked beans.

Closest experience to Texas BBQ in Chicago! Great brisket, awesome interior/exterior, and overall good vibes. Side dishes are very well portioned and there’s a variety of sauces as well. Seating can be tables or bar too.

Probably one of the best places to go for real deal BBQ in Chicago. They do everything right! The brisket is tender, juice and full of flavor. The pork belly was amazing! I loved the pepper rub they use. The ribs were tender but not overly tender, well seasoned and meaty. The sausage was perfect. Good snap on the casing, wonderful flavor, meat to fat ratio was spot on and the sauces complimented it so well. Great sides to pair with the food as well. The atmosphere, food, and service was all great. I highly recommend checking out this spot in the west loop.

You need to go here! SO MANY yummy choices and staff is EXCELLENT. Atmosphere is justa place you WANT to hang out in. Large picnic style tables so you can meet others easily or just sit and talk with a friend. Portions are HUGE and food is SO good. This time I had smoked turkey but have had brisket in the past. Too many sides to choose from and all are good!

First time visitor while visiting my son. Absolutely a must visit. Cool, cobblestone alley entry. Outdoor park bench style seating when weather permits. Inside ambiance is old warehouse, really fun, with seating at big wooden tables with benches Oktoberfest style. Order at the front counter, meats served by the 1/2 pound (around $15, depending on type of meat.) Sides are delicious, you have to try the coleslaw! Staff is friendly and fun. Free refills on Softdrinks. I can’t wait to take the wife on our next visit!

Green Street Smoked Meats offers a unique dining experience where smoked meats take center stage in a setting that feels more like a lively urban hangout than a classic barbecue restaurant. We ordered sliced brisket, chicken thighs, coleslaw, potato salad, and finished with banana pudding, and every dish spoke to the kitchen’s attention to detail.
The sliced brisket was the star of the meal. It was tender, deeply flavorful, and showcased the richness that comes from hours of careful smoking. Each bite had a balance of smoky aroma and melt-in-your-mouth texture without being overly fatty. The chicken thighs carried a subtle smokiness as well, juicy and satisfying with just the right amount of seasoning to let the meat itself shine.
As for the sides, the coleslaw was crisp and refreshing, offering a light contrast to the richness of the meats. The potato salad was hearty but well-balanced, creamy without feeling heavy, and rounded out the meal with a touch of comfort. Together, the sides complemented the proteins perfectly.
To end on a sweet note, the banana pudding delivered a nostalgic touch. Creamy, layered, and indulgent, it tied the whole experience together with just the right level of sweetness.
What sets Green Street apart is the ambiance: long communal tables, rustic décor, and an energetic atmosphere that feels warm and inviting. It’s the kind of place where great food meets great vibes, making it a must-visit for anyone looking for high-quality smoked meats in a fun, memorable setting.

it is good, but we do feel its severely overpriced for what we get. the sides are alright. we do prefer that at smoque there is a set meal price where as this place they do not.
the service here is always sooo mediocre. i understand this is a tourist heavy spot & that working customer service must REALLY BLOW’! but come on man, they act like they’re being forced to work here against their own will.
and I am one that is able to overlook meh service if the food is good but eehh
