Mr. Chino Hills
Trying a new cuisine is always a bit of an adventure, and Green Banana Leaf in Chino Hills was such a pleasant surprise. From the first bite, I knew I had just discovered something special. Filipino food is bomb; bold, comforting, and packed with flavor in a way that feels both familiar and exciting at the same time.

What I love most is how it feels like a beautiful fusion of Latin soul with an Asian touch. The savory depth, the perfectly balanced sweet and salty notes, the hearty portions; it hits home while still introducing your taste buds to something new. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared and full of authentic flavor.

The experience was warm, inviting, and full of good energy; exactly what you want when exploring a new cuisine for the first time.

If you’ve never tried Filipino food before, this is your sign. Green Banana Leaf is absolutely worth the visit.

Definitely will be back.

Update #3: finally rounded up enough friends to have dishes that we normally don’t order, such as crispy pita, which was very good and the bocil express, also very good. The service was much improved on this visit. It seemed that this place has a high turn over of its servers, but hopefully the ones here today will stay longer as they were friendly and attentive.

Update 2: it has changed its menu, but I don’t think the price of its lunch special went up much, if any. The amount of food has, however, reduced somewhat, but it was enough for us. The taste was still good and the service was very good today with a nice young lady that we haven’t seen before.

Update: we went back for lunch. I ordered Pancit Bihon (again) and it tasted better than before. The ingredients seemed fresher, and I can taste the improved quality. You can even see the difference from the pictures of the same dish. Seldomly (actually never) have we experienced improved taste at a subsequent visit. Next time I need to see if the deep fried hock also improved.

We’ve been coming to this Filipino restaurant for years and the quality has been quite consistent over that period. Since I’ve never been to the Philippines, I can’t say for its authenticity; but I’ve eaten a lot of Filipino restaurants especially in the Filipino neighborhood in Mid-Town Wilshire area and this one does not serve fancy fusion Asian food, just standard home styled cooking which I enjoy. The Kara-Kara is excellent, pork adobo is very good and so us the pancit bihon. Recently it upgraded its chairs and looks a little better, but still this is a family or group gathering type of a restaurant.

I took my family for lunch after mass on a rainy day. The place was busy but not too packed. We waited about 5 minutes to be seated. It’s a casual, family style dining place with a wide screen TV set on a music channel. We ordered the GBL crispy platter- crispy pata, lechon kawali, fried chicken, lumpia, and calamares. We also added traditional kare-kare, pancit bihon, pork sisig, and of course steamed rice. I loved the crispy pata, kare-kare, and pancit. The pork sisig came on a sizzling plate, nice presentation but not a fave of the bell peppers. For dessert we shared an order of leche flan, it was sweet and creamy a perfect end to our lunch. Service was nice and friendly. Restroom was clean. Parking is shared in this business plaza. Accessible parking is available.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about this restaurant! From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was right back home in the Philippines. I’ve been missing the warmth, comfort, and flavors of living there, and this place brought it all rushing back in the best way possible.

The food was absolutely delicious—authentic, flavorful, and prepared with so much care. Every dish tasted like the kind of home-cooked meals I grew up with, and it made me feel so comforted and connected to my roots.

What really made the experience extra special was my waitress. She was beyond amazing—kind, attentive, and so genuinely welcoming. She made me feel like family, which is exactly the kind of hospitality that makes Filipino culture so beautiful.

If you’re craving a true taste of the Philippines or just want a place that feels like home, this is it. I left with a full heart and a full stomach, and I can’t wait to come back.

Excellent food with warm and friendly service. Came here with my mom and grandma, ordered the fried squid, bulalao, and sisig bangus. All the dishes tasted amazing and were presented beautifully. The squid was done very well and the lemon cream dipping sauce complimented the appetizer very well.

Been here before many years ago and it was then 5 stars. Went recently and noticed after I walked in that they have a “B” rating. The restaurant itself had this distinct odor almost moldy. The service was horribly slow as there was only 2 waitresses who both appeared had no idea what was going on, and yet really catered to just the customers of the same ethnic background as themselves. At the end my parents who are elderly in their late 70’s was handed the bill when I stepped out to put things in the car and then when I saw the receipt they added a surcharge plus an additional 18% tip. When my father showed me the receipt I asked why such a big tip when there was a service charge and he stated the waitress just told him to press here in their payment device. I went back into ask to see the signed receipt and the older waitress started acting as if she had no idea what happened or what I was looking for when I requested to see the signed receipt. The younger waitress who served us went and reprinted the receipt assuming that I wanted a copy which I had in my hand and presented to them when I asked for the signed original. I asked them what gave them a right to just tell disabled elders where to press all to get a tip that was not deserving in any way. We spent a total of 2.5 hours there and over an hour was just waiting for the food. Mind you there was 3 tables when we entered and was like that the whole entire time. It was difficult to get the waitresses attention since they were hiding behind the partition where the expo kitchen is. I had to get up several time just to ask for our drink and what the issue was with the food taking to long. The tip fiasco was the last straw for me and will never be returning to this place. I’d rather drive to Cerritos and eat at Gerry’s for their prices, at least I know I’ll get better service and tasting food.

Everything was great…but I’m curious why the restaurant gets a B rating more often than an A rating. That aside, this place probably is one of the best Filipino themed restaurants ever. Let’s aim for that A rating; I believe in you!

Takes too long to serve the food but it’s worth the wait. Kare-kare was good. The crispy fried chicken and their own sauce was yummy. Halo-halo was average. We bring family and friends to this place to let them taste the food and they liked it. Plus the price was reasonable. The place was a little bit small for a big family gathering

We had a reservation but we got inside like 30mins late. We arrived at the place an hour earlier than our time. There was an empty table but it was not offered to us. And when its our time they told us that the table for us was still occupied and we have to wait for those guests to leave the place but there was an empty table. So we don’t understand why we have to wait that long to get seated.
