This is a great place to eat, the food was delicious and the service was great. Atmosphere is great, too, as you can hold conversations and not feel like you have to yell over other people or the music. We went on Valentine’s Day and were immediately seated with no wait. Our food came out in great time. We got the baked feta and were able to do half pita and half veggies as a gluten free alternative for me. My husbands steak and lobster was perfect, and so were my stuffed peppers. Overall, we will be coming back! Plus the owner was so nice, walking around and making suggestions on what was good off the menu.

A Must-Try Authentic Greek Feast at Greek Tavern! (5/5 Stars)
My husband and I recently enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Greek Tavern, and we were thoroughly impressed! From the appetizers to the main courses, everything was served in generous portions and the quality was truly amazing.
️ The Food Highlights
To start, the Shrimp Bisque was rich, creamy, and flavorful—a perfect appetizer to whet our appetites.
For the main courses, we indulged in the following:
• My Dish (3-Course Skewers): I ordered the platter featuring lamb, beef, pork, and grilled chicken. Every piece of meat was incredibly tender and perfectly seasoned, a testament to their grilling expertise. The lemon potatoes served alongside were crispy on the outside and wonderfully moist and tangy on the inside.
• Husband’s Dish (Chicken Skewers): My husband’s Chicken Skewers were equally succulent. Paired with the flavorful lemon rice and a fresh, crisp Greek Salad, it made for a well-rounded and delightful meal.
Both of our main dishes were accompanied by warm, fluffy pita bread and the traditional Greek sauce (tzatziki), which was clearly homemade and refreshingly cool.
✨ Overall Impression
If you are looking for authentic Greek cuisine with huge, satisfying portions and top-notch ingredient quality, Greek Tavern is the place to go. You definitely get great value for your money oh and the Baklava is a must ! Our waiter was extremely friendly, friendly and courteous

I had a fantastic lunch at the Greek Tavern on Monday. The chicken lemon soup was absolutely outstanding, and the Greek salad was fresh and perfectly balanced. The Gyro pita was fluffy and well-seasoned, with tender meat that cooked quickly. The service was excellent, especially from the owner. Our server, Jeremy, was very attentive—taking the time to explain the menu, checking in on us, and making sure we had everything we needed. Overall, it was a very nice family restaurant. I also must mention that their pastry selection at the coffee shop, all imported from Italy, was simply outstanding.

We have eaten dinner here twice. Greek Tavern has a modern and romantic ambiance, perfect for a date. The staff have always been enthusiastic and kind, the food is delicious and the portions are plentiful. They have a great dessert and coffee selection, but as of now there is no alcohol on the menu. For busy weekend times, you can make a reservation and guarantee you don’t have to wait for a table!

First off, let’s talk tzatziki. This creamy yogurt, dill and cucumber dip is high on my list of favorite condiments! You can put it on everything from the fresh pita to potatoes and meats- and trust me you’ll want to!

For appetizers, we’ve loved the Greek meatballs and the baked honey feta is amazing – the tartness and sweetness go together so well and who doesn’t love puff pastry? I have to ask though, stuffed grape leaves? I absolutely love them, and I’m so sad that they are not on this menu! Everything is so good – I’m sure they would be amazing.

For the most bang for your buck, get the three skewer platter. It’s a huge portion of meats including steak, chicken and pork plus a hefty pile of gyro meat. You also get warm soft pita bread, some lemon butter potatoes and a salad! Honestly, if you get the platter and an appetizer it’s enough to feed two people, or, for one, you’ll have delicious leftovers for lunch the next day!

The moussaka was awesome – the meat is well seasoned and the béchamel sauce is creamy perfection. I also had the lamb and orzo. The orzo in a tomato sauce is perfectly cooked, tender and delicious and the lamb shank was so good I wanted to pick it up and eat it with my fingers! (Honestly, I took it home as a leftover and did just that! )

Something I love about Greek food is the inclusion of cinnamon in savory dishes and they use just the right amount of all sorts of spices to infuse their meals with delicious flavor.

Again, the staff have always been so welcoming and accommodating. I ordered a hazelnut matcha after my dinner last time and, when I wanted it a little sweeter the barista was so kind to just add an extra pump of syrup to make it exactly what I was looking for.

I think this is a perfect date night location, or a great place for a celebratory meal. If you bring your children they won’t be uncomfortable here, but there’s plenty of room for family tables as well as more intimate dining experiences.

Food was decent and the service was absolutely top tier. I had Ellany as our waitress. I hope I am spelling her name correctly. Her service and attention to detail was amazing. The ambience is really nice. Parking is a bit limited. We ordered a bunch of dishes but only ended up taking two pictures. The portion sizes are very generous. I also tried their three skewer combo platter not pictured which was good and came with huge portions. Their feta cheese is excellent. Wasn’t a huge fan of their gelato but I could be biased since I just came back from Italy. Overall a great family place to dine

I understand this restaurant is related to the Alpha Gyro Grille (also in Gainesville), but this place is like AGG on an Olympic-sized dose of steroids !! Much of the same wonderful AGG menu selections and recipes… but expanded like 3 or 4 times. The food is fabulous and the menu is expanded to include pizza, a coffee bar, gelatos and more. The waitress-served seating is large and comfortable. Booths can easily handle 8 people. The décor is tasteful and appropriate, and incudes a screened-in outdoor patio. The new waitstaff is friendly and very helpful, but still working out some of the kinks. All-in-all, a glorious meal in a very comfortable setting.
• The only concern is parking. We went at noon on Friday and had to park 2 blocks away. The quality of the experience made the 100 yd walk worth it, but still.

We both had the seafood bisque and split two appetizers (both enough for 4 people) fried calamari and crab dip along with a latte. The seafood bisque was really good but the crab dip was lacking flavor. Nice environment, but parking and seating was alittle crowded. Very cool that they have a coffee bar and the bakery. Would suggest a filter system for the water due to the lake turn over causing bad odor and taste

I’ve been saying that Gainesville is quietly becoming a weekend getaway, thanks to its thoughtful touches in restaurants, downtown, traffic, entertainment, and customer service. We stumbled upon the Greek Tavern, much like we did with Johnny’s Pizza, Vendetti’s Pizza, and Cotto Modern (check out my reviews & photos!). Those are three absolutely wonderful spots for food.

Now, the Greek Tavern is just a few yards from Main Street and is housed in a gorgeous building. The place was spotless and decorated like you were dining at a seaside Mediterranean restaurant. I loved the open ceilings and the use of brick inside. I even appreciated the design in their restrooms. Someone really put a lot of effort into designing and decorating this restaurant. It has two sun porches, a huge dining area, and an elegant coffee spot that could steal the Starbucks crowd—so impressive!

We visited on a Friday during lunch, and the crowd was just right. It was a mix of people from all over the world, and the owner was very friendly and recommended some dishes. The employees were dressed in coordinated outfits, with gray for the servers and black for the hostesses. I must say, the owner hired some of the prettiest young ladies you’ll ever see in one restaurant. They were all nice and hardworking.

The star of the show was the menu—good grief! It was the size of a window pane, no kidding. It had almost every Mediterranean dish you could imagine ordering. We started with hummus and pita bread. It was good, but it didn’t quite have that traditional olive flavor mixed in with olive oil. However, as of today, four days later, I’m still enjoying it with my own chips. They give you a lot. We ordered Greek salads and gyro wraps with blackened chicken—amazing flavors. But I added the grill octopus! Now, let me say, this is Gainesville, Ga, and it was the best I’ve ever had—crispy, juicy, and amazingly similar to Spiny Lobster (check out the pictures!). We also had coffee and espresso to finish off the lunch. Let me say, Greeks like their coffee strong, so be warned.

I’d definitely suggest checking out this fantastic restaurant downtown Gainesville, even with a current 85 health inspection! Just a heads-up, it’s not Panera, so you might have to wait a bit, and the bill for two, including a tip, will be around $50-75. The only thing I’m not a fan of is the parking. The main lot has maybe 20 spots, and they’ve added a map for other areas, but most folks might be hesitant because of Atlanta’s parking fees. If you decide to go, ask for “Day”—she’s a sweetheart who’s planning to become a teacher after high school.

What a great find! Greek Tavern is fantastic. The food was great. The service was wonderful and the ambience was really cool. Despite the name, they don’t actually serve alcoholic beverages. But no worries; the food, coffee, and everything else about it make up for that one little thing. But just don’t expect a glass of wine or beer with your meal.Highly recommend!
