Couldn’t have chosen a better place than Minneapolis’ Great Wall to have our daughter’s surprise 18th birthday party!! They reserved the back room for us, set with a long table for 22, and had another small one set aside for the cake and another for gifts. They let us hang a banner and bring flowers and colorful lanterns and the staff was attentive and helpful. We met with the wonderful Raymond ahead of time to plan the menu of our daughter’s favorites, and the appetizers and entrees were brought out timely and thoughtfully served, as planned.
They make delicious cream cheese wontons in house, use fresh crisp vegetables, the thin lo mein noodles are cooked just right and the tangerine chicken is a family favorite — my parents and aunt liked everything so much, they have already been back for more, commenting how fresh and non-greasy everything is…
For dessert they came by and sprinkled the tables with fortune cookes and let us serve our own cake, having provided us with freezer space and an ice cream scoop. It was a perfect night. NOTE: They’re also caring and attentive to food allergies! : )
Overall, the Great Wall is our favorite neighborhood Chinese restaurant, great for dining in, taking out, or having a private party!!

I ordered this food on doordash. I got a sesame chicken that was flavorless and non-spicy (im Vietnamese) so I prefer a little bit of spice just like my husband does. We also ordered the combo lo mein which we were very excited about because it looked like authentic lo mein (not like panda express or leann chin) but when we tried it, it was flavorless, desperately in need of salt and msg and overall not what we expected. The chicken in the lo mein were unnaturally soft and tasted like eating (not to be rude) but soap like. It tasted and felt like eating soft melted soap. This place would be great if you’re sensitive to bold flavors and such, but as a asian woman myself, this brings me sadness and shame to my culture. I think paying $55 through doordash and having the chicken and lo mein essentially being $20 each, I would say this is not even worth it. Update: just ate a frozen custard bun my partner and I got from Shanghai Asian Market (Mall) you can get a pack for $6 and that filled us up on our appetite better than the food we just tried!! Shanghai Asian Market got the win and saved us from the hunger!!!

I’ve been to a lot of Chinese spots around the Twin Cities, but Great Wall of China in Edina seriously impressed me.
From the moment you walk in, it’s got that classic, comfortable neighborhood feel — not over-the-top fancy, just warm and welcoming. Service was quick, friendly, and on point. You can tell they’ve been doing this for a while.
Now the food…
Everything came out hot, fresh, and packed with flavor. The portions were solid, and nothing tasted rushed or generic. The sauces were balanced perfectly — not overly sweet, not bland — just right.
But let me talk about that spicy mustard.
If you know, you know. That nose-clearing, sinus-opening, wake-you-up kind of mustard. The kind that hits fast, makes your eyes water for a second, and then you immediately go back for more. Absolute perfection with egg rolls and fried rice. I could honestly buy a bottle of that stuff.
Overall:
Fresh, flavorful dishes
Great portion sizes
Fast and friendly service
Legendary spicy mustard
If you’re in Edina and craving solid Chinese food that actually delivers on flavor, this place is a win. I’ll definitely be back.

Stopped in solo mid-afternoon. Ordered Chardonnay, egg rolls & chicken subgum chow mein. Bland tasting chow mein was presented with strange looking pure-white pieces of decorative chicken—did not look natural to me. Egg rolls were okay. Meticulously clean table with small pitchers of sweet & hot sauces. Service: zero. Concern for me as a diner: zero (perhaps because I was solo?) Left minimal tip—NOT me! Brought chicken pieces home, rinsed them off, patted dry & froze for kitty treats. My cat would write a 5-star review. I saved on packaged cat treats. Their other dishes must be much more appealing because the place has been in business for many years and is a neighborhood favorite. Not mine.

I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the cream cheese wontons which were perfectly fried, the right size, and not greasy at all. They come with a sweet sauce and a mustard sauce.
I also ordered the broccoli in garlic sauce with medium spice. It was just lightly spicy with great flavor.
Definitely a step above your typical fast casual Chinese restaurant in terms of flavor and technique. It’s also been in the neighborhood for decades, so you know it’s solid.

Great food. The Beef Szechuan Style that I had was really good. Liked the spiciness it had in it. The place is decently convenient, as it is along the route 6 bus which is every 30 minutes, but it will be served soon by the E Line which will be more frequent, which will be good and will make it easier to get to this restaurant

Awesome food, great service! Waitress checked in several times, vegetarian spring rolls were lightly fried and crunchy, delicious food! Veg. Lo Mein was perfect and not greasy. Tea is perfect temp, rich taste. Clean building, great service, this is a favorite local lunch spot for me. Been here before and it’s fast great food and service consistently.

I ordered tangerine chicken and wanton soup. Both were tasty and I’d eat again if some changes were made. The portions were large. I received a 50% off coupon from Uber Eats for this restaurant. I don’t think for regular price I’d order from here again. I chose spice levels for both items and yet no spice was added to either. The tangerine chicken box taste was very much what I wanted and it contained a tangerine on top as well as cooked peels inside the food asking with other ingredients. I liked all of this but I found that there was a lot fried oily corn starch with no meat inside, I’d like more meat in the actual entree. I don’t think I’d recommend Great Wall Chinese Restaurant.

My entree was the Sizzling Chicken, which was really good, but only came with a half pint of steamed rice and cost almost $22. I asked for it to be extra spicy and it didn’t seem like it was.
The wonton soup was good.
The egg rolls were kind of bland. But it does come with a really good hot mustard.
The rangoons are a joke, there’s only a spec of cream cheese in them, they’re basically just very overpriced crispy wantons.
I would probably order again. But not if I was in the mood for a decent Rangoon.

Been getting take-out for 30 years. My recent order was AWEFUL. The Hot & Sour soup was watery with no flavor- like the cheapened it. The Szechuan beef looked nothing like like the used to and tasted very strange- couldn’t even eat it. We asked for their homemade sauce for 4 egg rolls and received barely enough for one- like hardly any. Thinking they must have a new owner trying to cut costs. Won’t be going there unfortunately.
Will order more from Coconut Thai.
It was a good run Great Wall but you’ve fallen way too far down in quality to justify the price.
