This place has very tasty food but the portions are way too small . The quality is there but man 3 little pieces of chicken on my curry , and 3 little pieces of lamb . Each plate is around $16-$20 which is super high for what they serve. I kid you not it was 95% curry sauce and hardly any meat . I would suggest ordering at least 5-6 dish for a family of 4 if you want some meat. Sad they got rid of their buffet.

Great Indian restaurant is located in the plaza in Union City, CA at Decoto Rd. The plaza has tons of parking and they do follow COVID safety procedures well. You basically check in, and the food is either ready right away, or you need to wait at least 5 mins outside so the food can be all prepped up for you. There are a variety of dishes and I loved the wide selection of vegetarian options! They only currently do to-go orders only with no indoor nor outdoor dining. That was the main section I was looking at. In terms of dishes, I got Shahi Paneer, the Aloo Gobi, and their garlic naan. Overall, my experience was really good and the food was spicy but delicious! Just the way I like it.

I’m going to start with the Shahi Paneer. The Shahi Paneer is a creamy sauce with paneer which is like cottage cheese. I have to say I like how thick the creamy sauce was! It was definitely very delicious and it’s perfect for dunking your garlic naan in the Shahi Paneer. I also like the chunks of cottage cheese too because it was soft and really liked how light it was in terms of the taste. Loved the warm spices as well with the Shahi Panneer but my one thing I would have liked was some herbs like cilantro. I think the dish would be more composed and elevated if there was some freshness (like a herb) to really help the dish. Overall, a very nicely composed vegetarian dish! I would have to say that was my favorite dish I got.

The Aloo Gobi is basically cauliflower and potatoes with special Indian spices. I loved how the vegetables were all coated in the spices and definitely, you get a kick when you eat it. I love the texture of the cauliflower and the potatoes I thought they weren’t too soft or crunchy, however, there were some pieces of potato I noticed were bigger than others. I wish it was a bit more consistent and a touch more salt to the vegetables would of been great as well. Overall, I liked this vegetable medley I thought it was delicious and it did not disappoint with the heat!

I got their garlic naan as well and I liked how soft the naan was. It’s definitely a great piece of bread and they do give you a nice portion as well. I love everything garlic and I actually wish there was more garlic in the naan if I have to be fairly honest! I love garlic and literally, I got garlic in the naan, but I wanted more. Overall, I really liked the garlic naan but I like more garlic, but then it might be too garlicy so I’m not sure haha!

Overall, this Indian place is a hidden gem in Union City! I really do recommend their food and the woman at the counter was sweet in assisting me. I want to come back and try more of their delicious food out! I’m so happy I found this place! Please show support to your local businesses during this time! This is a Great Indian Restaurant in Union City in my opinion! Follow me @the.flexitarian.aholic for more Bay Area eats.

3.5 is my wife’s rating who is the vegetarian in the family. The picture which is not added about Veg kabab pushed my review to 4.0 even though kabab tasted as veg cutlets, they were still yummy and the presentation was really nice on a sizzler plate.
The point which was disappointment was the tandoori roti which was less cooked and fatter in size.

Final bill was on higher side ($$) for two people.

The server forgot the mango lassi and complimented later as I had finish food already and was canceling the lassi.

Ordered dinner take out here thinking that it would be a good experience. It was not.

Ordered their signature dish – Punjabi Mutton – watery gravy with 4 pieces of bones. The Veggie Thali was bland and nothing to write about either. Saagwala Paneer was okay and the mixed Veg. I don’t cook, yet I would make a better Daal Makhni.

Definitely not going back here again.

Nice experience there with delicious food. It says Halal from the staff as well put halal on the door too. So I went there and try non veg dishes which were very tasty. I hope it’s certified halal.

For what it’s worth, my family waited 50 minutes for our order to arrive because, as the waiter explained, the kitchen was slammed with online orders. He should have warned us. The waiter occasionally apologized but otherwise was very apathetic, (even failing to bring us our bill when we asked because he was on his phone on top of the wait). He only had two tables, and didn’t visit them much. I found the food to be more bland than average for Indian food in the area, while my wife was more positive (neither of us are South Asian, so if I call it bland, that’s a red flag). Also, we asked in advance which meals were non-spicy enough for a little kid, but despite assurances, everything was a little caliente, so the kid had to eat naan. Maybe the new ownership could have time to straighten themselves out, but otherwise, you have much better options elsewhere. We won’t be back.

Billa and Sean were great: this is the first time we visit, every single item that we ordered was delicious, fresh, amazing quality. They are very polite and alert, they both paid attention to every detail on our table, like bringing enough napkins and asking us if we wanted more tea, I felt welcomed as soon as they greeted us. I highly recommend it!

The service was great..people were not wearing masks though. Panneer pakora was the only dish that was fresh. We’ve ordered dahi batata..the curd was old ,sour and frozen for several days ..same case with panipuri.the pani was frozen several days.the chutneys uses in the charts were all super cold.frozen and thawed.only dish that tasted good was Gobi paratha. Though Service was good..I had to pay 60$ for eating all frozen chutneys and dahi
