You can tell the owners and staff put a lot of focus on providing a kind and welcoming experience.
The German-Alpine fusion was definitely interesting and we look forward to returning, soon!

Mostly couples, at least 3 families with children were present and well-behaved. A large party of ten was seated as we were leaving. What sounded like German marches in the mood of Oktoberfest were played in the background, which I found entertaining, but another member of my party did not. There was upper level and “Biergarten” which we did not explore.
Others in my party ordered satisfying, high protein, high fiber mussels in a tomato sauce with a side salad. A cook herself who is health-conscious, she loved the taste and the healthy option. Others in my party ate a 8 piece shrimp cocktail followed by slowly braised, extremely tender beef goulash and spaetzle with buttery sauce and the fourth member had extremely tender chicken schnitzel and Bavarian style potato salad with a pleasant tang to it. Two ordered pleasantly rich ice cream, one espresso, another vanilla. Two ordered beer, one Weiss, another Helles.
We all laughed and talked and enjoyed the service of our waiter, host, hostess and bartender in this lovely facility. Adding this to our list of haunts
Everything on the menu looked so good that we ended up ordering far more food than two people could finish. The Weisswurst Fruehstueck was excellent, especially with the sweet mustard. We also loved the Bavarian pretzels with Obazda and herbed quark — the pretzels were good, but the dips were outstanding. The Bratwurst was solid, and the sauerkraut was delicious. The clear standout was the Pork Schnitzel, which was perfectly cooked and full of flavor.
The only dish that didn’t quite meet our expectations was the Spaetzle. The cheese was mixed in rather than sprinkled on top, which made it taste more like mac and cheese than traditional spaetzle. It was still good, just different from what we’re used to at a German restaurant.
The beer was excellent, and we would have happily ordered more if we weren’t so full. Our server was great — attentive, friendly, and made the experience even better. Overall, we highly recommend this place and will definitely be back.
The food is just as impressive. You can taste the quality in every bite — clean, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared. One of the biggest selling points for me is that they’ve committed to removing seed oils from their kitchen. That kind of care for ingredients and customer health is rare and incredibly appreciated.
The staff is welcoming, the beer is excellent, and the overall vibe is laid-back but elevated. Great Heart Brewing doesn’t just serve food and drinks — they set a new standard for what a great dining experience should feel like in STL. Highly recommend.
