Great Giorno is a local Italian restaurant in Terre Haute. The restaurant is in an old bank. The original vault and the teller windows are still in the building. You can reserve the bank vault for a more private dining experience.
The owner was in the building and greeted us personally when we entered. He was interested in speaking with us and spoke with us about how he got into the culinary arts and ended up in Terre Haute. He told us all of his chefs are actually trained chefs and not just someone off the street. Owner, Chef Jimmy, assured us that his intent is to take care of his customers.
The food was very good. There were only two rolls brought out to the table. Initially I thought this was odd, but after realizing these aren’t your typical yeast rolls you get at a chain restaurant, I understood. These rolls are dense and heavy. They were a welcomed change to normal dinner rolls.
Chef Jimmy had mentioned that the restaurant goes through approximately 600 lbs of chicken a week. I thought that was a very large amount. However when I saw what my buddy got as a serving for his chicken Parm, I could totally see why. The serving was massive. Definitely enough to share. The chicken was cooked well and had great flavor.
I ordered the seasonal dish, shrimp and scallop linguini. It came in a marsala sauce and had a very slight kick of heat to it. The sweetness of the marsala sauce paired nicely with the spice. The shrimp were slightly overdone and a little on the chewy side, but the flavor was excellent.
Chef Jimmy let me know his wife bakes the baklava herself, so naturally I had to try some. It was very good. The outside wasn’t as flaky as some I’ve tried, but all in all, a good baklava.
We didn’t notice any sort of sewer smell while there. It’s also difficult to get good help and I’m sure there is quite a bit of turnover waiting tables regardless of the restaurant, so knowledge of the menu may be a tough subject to grade the staff on. I can tell you Chef Jimmy knows his menu as he and I talked about what to order at length. In the end, Great Giorno Italian Cuisine was a refreshing and tasty experience. I would definitely return again. Thanks, Jimmy!

Very good local place, they served large portions. The taste was excellent and their bread when dipped in the herbs and cheese they offer was great. The piece is on par with sit down chains, so why not retry this place and go local? The wait staff was very friendly. I ordered fettuccine alfredo with chicken added. The alfredo tasted great, the chicken was a bit fatty but it could have just been a bad night. The overall look of the place and atmosphere was really nice and they had plenty of room for big parties. This is a old bank converted into a restaurant so the old vault is still in place, I didnt get a good look inside but I believe there is a table for dining inside. Definitely recommend as a local place to check out in Terre Haute

I had been wanting to try this place for a while and once I did, I was NOT disappointed. We started with the bread dipped in olive oil, parmesan & herbs. Oh my. It was very good. We then had the mozzarella fritti (fried cheese sticks) and they were delicious. The meals my family tried were the pepperoni pizza, spinach ravioli with red cream sauce, shrimp scampi and the spicy shrimp and scallops with marsala wine and garlic, which was a special for that evening and not on the menu. We all absolutely LOVED our meals! Each dish was full of flavor and it was hard to stop eating! This place has one of those menus that you can’t decide between the meals because you want to try it all. We will definitely be back!

The food was really good and large portions. I loved the Fettuccine Alfredo.
The Mozzarella sticks were some of the best I’ve had. We also had the stuffed mushrooms and they were delicious.
Our group of 4 were pleased with our dining experience. The prices were very reasonable.

What a treat. This place was referred by a work colleague. She knows all the best places in Terre Haute. She said to pick up a bucket of pasta and bread to take home so I did. This is a great suggestion from “the Georgia list”. The chicken was fantastic. Everyone loved the meatballs. We will try dining in next time to try their wine selection. Parking is around back. Watch your step as you enter. The meals are enough to split with two people. I order 2 entrees and a salad for 3 people and had plenty. Ciao!

I was pleasantly surprised that they had gluten-free pasta. My waitress was so sweet but wasn’t aware of what items on the menu were dairy-free or gluten-free so we had a relay race going with the kitchen. The food was really good once it was sorted out, though my wait was over an hour to get the meal.

Absolutely delicious, it’s best Italian I’ve had hands down. Large selection on the menu and not just a “spaghetti and pizza” place. The oil and bread is amazing this is the only place that I’ve been to that does herbs AND cheese with it which was a total game changer. The coffee was delicious I normally have creamer but took a sip from my SO cup and it didn’t need it, very flavorful and not bitter whatsoever. If you like cheese or mozzarella sticks please do yourself a favor and order the crispy mozzarella fritti, perfect combo of crispy and ooey gooey fresh mozzarella.

Sometimes the vibes are just right. I came here for dinner with my girlfriend and we were blown away by our service. Everyone was super personable and fit into this weird mix of formal and casual that just worked. When paired with a really cool building, the atmosphere is exquisite.
The food was just good. It was pretty standard Italian fare without much pizzaz. However, the prices are absolutely outstanding. You get 2 meals for the price of 1. In particular, a 1 topping large pizza will only run you $13.50. Best of all, it’s real pizza, not that chain nonsense. Overall, I’m not sure there’s a better bang for your buck.
