⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 10/10 – A New Local Gem!
Grassroots in Donnellson is an absolute delight! Their oat milk lattes are chef’s kiss — smooth, creamy, and so comforting. The moment you walk in, you can feel the cozy, local charm, from the locally made sweatshirts to the adorable dog bandanas (our pups-approved!).
The food? Unreal. The cinnamon rolls are massive brioche masterpieces, and the ham and cheese on brioche was just perfect. Don’t even get me started on the oatmeal cream pie cookies and the pumpkin pie treats—pure heaven. And the prices are surprisingly great for the quality.
The staff is incredibly kind, the space is family-friendly, and there’s plenty of parking which makes it super convenient. Grassroots has definitely earned a spot on our regular rotation. Highly, highly recommend! Five stars!

I live over 2 hours away and somehow I’m a regular – that’s how good this place is.
But truly, this place is such a gem. You can tell Cassie puts so much care and intention into everything they do at Grass Roots. The coffee with house made syrups, the rotating food and pastry selection, the seasonal ice cream and sorbet and lemonades. Plus the staff are all so kind.

I love this place! The food is delicious and the coffees are excellent and most of the syrups are house made! The staff are friendly attentive. But what I love most about this place is how it’s changing the community! People are gathering, sharing ideas, and enjoying fellowship. Come for the coffee but stay for the smiles.

Loved this cozy little coffee shop in my husband’s hometown! The coffee was great and the cinnamon roll was amazing. The savory rolls weren’t out yet when we stopped in, so we’re excited to try those next time we’re back. The owner was super friendly — just a really warm, welcoming vibe all around.

My family enjoyed everything we ordered during our visit – coffee, tea, juice, homemade strawberry and cinnamon rolls, custard, and cake pops. The adorable, calm, and relaxing cafe had plenty of seating during our visit. My children enjoyed the coloring books and loved that they could sit outside on the benches to eat their custard. We will definitely be back!

This is a trendy breakfast spot and the only spot for sit down conversation un Donnelson, IA the coffee, bureau, and scones were tasty and the service very friendly. They have great pastries, and like 1 other food options, but its a great place to come, visit, and enjoy the atmosphere. They also have local shirts and candles the are beautiful.

If you’re a local or just coming thru, you Must! Check out GrassRoots! The desserts and breakfasts they have are phenomenal! Everything! Including the coffee with homemade house syrups are to die for! All while dinning in a new and cozy remodeled building, The Kids and I love stopping in to have Custard and play a round of uno ❤️

Grassroots is everything you want in a hometown coffee shop. The coffee is consistently excellent, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and it truly feels like the heart of the community. The rolls are legendary!

Delicious coffee, chai, and other drinks. To die for custard that is homemade. Lovely pastries, and a varied daily special breakfast sandwich, or bowl. Nice atmosphere, with plenty of seating, and a play table for kids.
