We both chose from the excellent value $29 per person menu. We shared the starters; fried calamari and a wedge salad. We then had the swordfish and spaghetti and meatball dish. We finished off with chocolate mousse and tiramisu (see photos).
Particularly for the price paid, the food was all excellent. The presentation of the swordfish stood out and my wife was particularly impressed with the home made pasta. All the dishes surpassed expectation at this price point.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is positive and light and bright. It is decorated in a Venetian indoor outdoor theme, which is fun. For those who love desserts there is an excellent dessert counter, which I was facing throughout the meal, to the delight of my eyes and the anticipation of my stomach!
There are different sections to the restaurant and different seating styles including a bar. This should cater to different party styles and kinds of occasion.
We were served by Ben who was quiet, calm and efficient. His service was excellent. The serving staff seemed to work well together, as a team and all we interacted with were positive, helpful and friendly. The young lady on the dessert counter helps navigate the offerings well.
All in all this is an excellent restaurant with good, reasonably priced food, excellent service and a nice atmosphere. The sort of place that regulars become attached to and return to again and again!
We ordered two different pasta dishes and pizza, and everything was absolutely delicious. The flavors were fresh, authentic, and perfectly prepared.
I especially want to thank our server, Hassan. He was incredibly positive, friendly, and truly knows how to make guests feel welcome. His energy and professionalism made our experience even more enjoyable.
Grappino is truly a wonderful place. The atmosphere and service were outstanding. I will definitely be coming back — and next time, I’ll be asking for Hassan again!
We have been to Grappino in the past and have loved it so decided to bring some friends who were visiting from out of town. This time, our experience was pretty bad. The restaurant was quite busy and we had a table of 8 which I understand is sometimes a little more difficult (and we wanted to take our time to visit and have a nice evening), however I did not expect our evening to turn out like it did.
1. We ordered 3 appetizers and only got 2
2. We ordered our food (one was pasta and a salad—shared between 2 people) and then sat for quite some time (which, again was fine so we had time to chat)—but during that time, our drinks were empty, appetizer plates (dirty) were not cleared and we waited.
3. Food was delivered (salad came out with the pasta and the rest of everyone’s food)—we had made it clear that two of us were sharing salad and pasta and we had 2 pizzas which were also shared. We were not given any sharing plates at all (and had finally given the dirty appetizer plates to someone to take away). We asked for plates for sharing and server brought one plate (we needed 4). I got up to ask another person who was working if we could get a couple more plates since our waiter was not around. She said (not nicely!) that he was bringing some. We waited probably 4-5 minutes and I finally asked her again (she was the closest person I could find). She went to a station and grabbed 6 tiny appetizer plates and literally threw them on our table. They were not even close to big enough to share pasta or a salad. Finally our waiter brought a couple more decent sized plates and by that time, most of the table was halfway done with their meals and pasta was cold. VERY frustrating.
4. I was drinking club soda and asked 3 different times for a refill before I got one.
5. We did order a second round of drinks for the table—didn’t get them all, had to return one that was not correct, etc.
Overall, it was clear that the restaurant was not prepared to serve the number of people who were there that night. Maybe they were short staffed or maybe just inefficient—would have been better to let us know up front that service might be a little slow. Most experienced waiters will bring plates with shared meals, ask right away if anyone wanted something (rather than just put the food on the table and leave), etc.
We won’t hurry back which is unfortunate since the food IS good—but not a nice relaxing night…
excellent. We were so impressed with the menu, food and service that we are looking forward to going again. They have an incredible bakery (fresh bread!) along with wonderful Italian dishes. The space is contemporary and clean. I really want to go for breakfast and lunch, as well as a nice dinner date with hubby.
