The fish, frog legs and shrimp were amazing. The sides were amazing. The hush puppies were amazing, but the hush puppies made us all Sick. They were fried in old grease. That afternoon we started belching them up and we were all throwing up the hush puppies. I got up the next day still doing it Normally the hush puppies is the best part of the meal there they are wonderful but the ones we had Saturday night were obviously cooked in old grease. Still love the place, but I will be weary of the hush puppies.
But don’t just take my word for it. This place has been in business my entire life… and they are only open a few days a week. Any place that stays in business that long yet is only open a few days, 3 days for a total of 17hrs a week total… Has to be doing something right and in this place’s case, it’s their food. Hands down best catfish you’ll ever eat.
Can’t wait to come back and try the trout and shrimp.
There can be a long wait for dinner, but usually not crowded at lunchtime.
I am southern born and raised, but still never been a huge fan of the almighty catfish, but Granny Fishes’ turned that all around. I put on a brave face and ordered the fried catfish, and it did not disappoint. It was fresh, hot, and oh so crispy. The coleslaw was crisp and tasty, and the fried mushrooms- to die for!!!
I went back the very next weekend with my kiddo who was mad she wasn’t invited the first time, and had myself another helping of their catfish, this time with some chicken tenders, and they too were so good. But on this trip, it was the onion rings that made my taste buds do a happy dance. Thin, crispy, and fried to perfection.
I don’t care how much artery clogging it induces, Granny Fishes’ is a tasty little restaurant with amazing food, a charming middle-of-nowhere coziness, and friendly and courteous service!
