Such a quaint restaurant at the foothills of the Appalachians. Breaded catfish had just right spice. Large hushpuppies were good. Great homemade potato chips. Husband said chicken strips, mashed potatoes and green beans were very good. The waitress was super sweet, very southern in personality. Looking forward to going back for breakfast, hoping for a sunny day so we can eat on outdoor patio.

Charming house turned restaurant with neat decor and friendly service. Menu changes daily. Breakfast bowl was hearty and bacon was crispy. French toast with blueberries were soft and fresh. Prices were good too. Definitely recommend stopping in here for a cozy breakfast.

Food is good and I was fine with the staff as friendly.

I don’t understand the owner and how they don’t mind insulting or offending the customer with stupid petty rules

I could get a hamburger with homemade potato chips for about 10 or $11 but I did not want a hamburger

I wanted the chicken salad sandwich that comes with one side for somewhere around the same price may be a dollar or two more

I was told by getting the chicken sandwich. There’s no way to get an order of homemade potato chips. I hardly ever see homemade potato chips on a menu and I was pretty glad to see them on the menu.

I was not given any options of how to get them. I was just told I can’t get them as a side.

When I was going to leave, I was told I could’ve got an order of them separately for five dollars but my waitress did not tell me that

It was clear that this comes up all the time and the owner just has some weird beef about substituting and I would’ve paid an up charge of one or two dollars to get what I wanted because I have money in my pocket to buy lunch

If the homemade potato chips are such a pain for this owner, why does she have it on the menu?

She’ll cook the potato chips for a burger, but not for a chicken sandwich not even with an up charge.

The message I got is “what you want for lunch doesn’t matter to me even if I could make it happen with little or no problem. I don’t care about the customer. “

When I first sat down I thought about bringing my wife back here. But after feeling the unappreciation from the owner, I realize my wife would have an even bigger problem with this kind of small thinking than I do

Regardless of the good food, it ruined my experience at this restaurant.

Definitely worth checking out if you’ve never been. The menu changes and they may run out of your favorite side item, but the food is good. It’s literally an old house where “Grandmother” used to live. Pretty neat. We tried the meatloaf, chicken tenders, chicken fried chicken, and chicken & dressing. Everyone enjoyed their meal.

Fantastic food served in a charming and relaxing atmosphere. Located off of old Highway 431. Location is convenient if going either direction on new 431. I took the detour and I’m glad I did. Restaurant has dinning areas in multiple rooms of the house with interesting memorably on the walls and an AWESOME American Indian (or what ever PC word is being used today) arrow head collection! The food was delicious and the homemade potato chips blew my mind! YUMMY! They also have a covered outdoors eatting area which provide views of farms and respective farm animals. Don’t fret there is no smell. Truly like others have stated a “gem in the rough!” I hope that with the aggressive development in the surrounding area they will continue performing at the current level. Burger and chips were so good that I forgot to take a picture before woofing them down! Sorry.

After experimenting a great deal more with other meat and threes, I have to say that Grandmother’s House is quite good. Much of the pleasure of this restaurant comes from the atmosphere and the service. It’s definitely cool that the owner of the place, and the usual chef, was born in the front room. It’s fun to go out and see the chickens and the vegetables if it’s growing season. The service consists of the owner, Wenona’s, family members, along with a couple of regulars turned part-time help. It’s clear they all love the place and the food. Real southern hospitality — if such a thing truly exists — lives here!

The food is also good. I personally believe the quality went down and the price went up a bit after everyone caught wind that Wenona had performed on Chopped. It’s a shame, but it’s still worth a visit. I would recommend the chicken tenders. They don’t really “do” fried chicken here, but the tenders are close enough and always very delicious. Grandmother’s House also makes some of my favorite mashed potatoes. Always the perfect amount of chunks and big pieces of potatoes! Desserts usually aren’t worth it to me, but if you must go for it, go for the lemon icebox pie. Tart and refreshing.

I would definitely recommend Grandmother’s House if you’re looking for a nice country drive, homestyle cooking, and charming service.

Great food, and great people. Love the house and the story. The food is amazing!! Let me also add that the owner is an amazing woman. She came out to personally make sure everything was ok. I read one review with one star!! How absurd!! The atmosphere is amazing!! The food is amazing!! The people are even more amazing!! Some people should not be allowed to post reviews. God Bless and do not listen to one angry person.

Dessert options change daily so be prepared lots of choices including peanut butter pie!! Coffee was great too.
