We got there as the restaurant opened, so we were seated quickly. The food was mediocre. It was nothing that stood out from the other places we ate at in Duluth. Serving was huge though!
Our server was not great. It seemed like she didn’t really want to be there. She was rude to some members of our party. She gave the vibe that we should be grateful that she was even taking our order.
Overall, Grandma’s was an experience. I think if you’re in Duluth, you should at least try it once. Will we come back? No.
We ordered the $20 Bacon Cheeseburger, and it was honestly a letdown. For that price, the burger was very small, lacked flavor, and came with a tiny amount of cheese and very few french fries. Similarly, the Salmon Bowl featured a surprisingly small bowl of rice with a few green beans and a small piece of fish that didn’t feel like a full meal. It definitley didn’t feel like a $24 dish.
The service was incredibly slow. We understand that the kitchen was overwhelmed at some point, but we waited over an hour for our food. To make matters worse, we had ordered chicken wings as an appetizer, but they didn’t arrive until more than an hour later, after the main courses. To their credit, the staff did not charge us for the wings since they missed the timing, but it didn’t make up for the overall experience.
It’s a real shame because you expect much larger portions and better quality for these prices. Great vibes, but the food and service simply didn’t match the cost. We left feeling quite disappointed. I’m sure management will reply to this saying they “strive to improve” or “will look into it,” just as they have on many other negative reviews here. However, looking back at past feedback, it’s clear that these same issues have been happening for a long time and nothing has actually changed. It’s a shame, but we won’t be returning. I have pictures of food but we are on those pics so I am mot going to publish them.
Plenty of parking and not too busy for 4pm Saturday afternoon. Booths, tables, hightops and bar seating available. Spent $72 total for dinner for two, no alcohol drinks which kept cost lower than we usually spend. Highly recommend for all the right reasons.
They’ve got a decent range of dishes such as pasta, side pieces, beverages, a kid menu, starters, burgers, salads, sandwiches, and such. The pieces around the restaurant on the walls, ceiling, and such were quite unique and had good humour to it. They’ve also got a merchandise/souvenir section right next to the entrance/exit.
