After a long drive, we decided to try this restaurant. We drove around a while because the sign is really small. The place is quaint, decorated with everything Spanish. The wait staff is friendly and patient. The food presentation was good. The meat was a little overdone. Handicapped accessible entry, restrooms. Outdoor seating overlooking Fox Lake, soothing views. You watch the boats going up and down the lake, where the passengers are clearly enjoying themselves. Plenty of free parking. High chairs are available for young children and infants. There is a fully stocked bar as well. Give them a try!

Cute Mexican cafe right on the Fox River with outdoor seating in the warmer weather. We went for an early lunch on a Thursday and there was only one other occupied table – it was 11am so after the breakfast rush and before lunch.

It’s comfortable and welcoming inside – homey. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. The menu is extensive, offering a variety of Mexican and American dishes. We were served chips and a delicious homemade salsa with just the right amount of heat.

My husband had the Mexican Chicken sandwich with fries. He really enjoyed it. I had the Quesabirria which comes with rice, beans, fresh lime, 2 salsas and a cup of warm consume for dipping. This may be my new favorite meal!!!!
The bill was only $33 for both meals. We will be back!

There was just us and another family when we stopped in for the first time. The server was a nice man, but it was a bit hard to get his attention when it came time for checkout…and the food was good. I ordered an asada burrito and it was SALTY! meat was tender, rice was ok. Salsa was pretty good. Chips were cold, but had a nice solid crunch. Ordered a blood Mary and it was tomato water with salt. I asked the server what he used and said Maggi Jugo Seasoning sauce instead of Worcestershire- should have been in addition. Overall it was a pleasant experience, and seems like a nice neighborhood stop.

Our go-to spot for taco Tuesday!!! The chorizo is by far my favorite – the flavor is amazing – it is savory but has a bit of a kick to it. I also like the carne asada & al pastor area! This is the only place I will go for authentic Mexican food in the McHenry/Johnsburg area. They always have great service, a welcoming atmosphere & it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a nice meal with river views on a nice day.

Got the ribeye steak with 6 jumbo shrimp, came with grilled veggies, rice, beans, and garlic bread.

Ribeye steak was 10oz. and I couldn’t finish the full meal. Steak was flavorful and cooked fine.

Shrimp, wouldn’t call it jumbo shrimp but that’s likely just to market it on a menu better in my view. Was a tad overcooked and didn’t have a ton of flavoring.

Grilled veggies were arguably the best part of dish.

Rice to me comparing to other Mexican rices was a 2/5. It had to be camouflaged with the beans which were typical refried beans.

Garlic bread was good as it should be, nothing complicated.

Hoping this place really considers reviews and improves their quality as the location on the water is very appealing and would be nice during summertime sitting outside to eat. Indoors was decorated nicely and very clean.

No offense to the cooks, but highly recommend making an authentic Chimichurri sauce as an option with steaks. If done correctly, it’ll enhance any streak and will bring people back.

Called Grandma’s kitchen before heading that way and asked what time breakfast ended. I was happy to find out, it is served all day long. Sweet! We headed that way.
When we arrived, we were seated promptly and ordered something to drink. I had a Bloody Mary and my boyfriend had a coffee. We both decided on our entrees and the server came to our table just as my boyfriend got up to go put a twenty in one of the machines. So I told the server our order which was the Mexican skillet and the Mexican Benedict. The usual questioned were asked, like toast or pancakes and hashbrowns or fruit. I gave my order and the server repeated it back to me. All was good.
We received our food quickly and we were excited to get started. My boyfriend soon realized that there was no chorizo on his Mexican Benedict, but said, I’m good, it’s fine. I mentioned to him that the server had even repeated my order back to me, so I was a little confused. The sever was nearby and I just said, isn’t there supposed to be chorizo on his Mexican benedict and the server gave me a look and said, you said regular Benedict. So I reminded him, no, I did not and that he read the order back to me. The server said, I can bring you chorizo, which my boyfriend was fine with. The real issue came when I heard the server in the kitchen telling the cook that I was Loco and proceeded to make his mistake, my mistake. He then brought the plate of chorizo out and had an attitude while doing so. I wanted so badly to ask him if I could read his note pad that he wrote down my order on, but didn’t want to carry this any further. The food was delicious. But the treatment of the server and his mistake upset me enough to leave this review.
I have over 30 years experience in the restaurant industry and have never blamed a customer for any mishaps, even if it was their fault. I’ve forgotten to place orders before and placed incorrect orders and have ALWAYS apologized and made it right immediately. Customers respect honesty. We were thinking of going back later for their fish fry, but I highly doubt we will. A simple (I’m so sorry, let me fix this) would have gone a long way.

I ordered a 3 taco dinner with guacamole and chips. The guacamole and chips were awesome and perfect! The tacos not so much, whatever seasoning they put in their ground beef is genuinely disgusting. It doesn’t taste like taco meat at all and it tastes like someone added sugar to it. I couldn’t even eat it, it was that bad. Extremely disappointed to say the least.

Went out for Taco Tuesday with my family to also celebrate a birthday. The service was great – food was very good and I loved the cozy atmosphere of the bar/restaurant. The kind of place you could drop in to anytime, date night or casual – I’ll be back!

Drinks were very good, and evenly distributed. We had margaritas and rum cocktails. Salsa that came out with chips was a little watery. Food was good with generous portions. We got enchiladas. Overall food and drinks are very authentic

Thank you for the amazing stuffed pineapple and mole enchiladas. Mole was homemade and pineapple was beautifully caramelized and had a rich seafood filling. Also had the flan which is homemade and out of this world! It’s a gem being off the water and to be able to eat outside and have great food. My only suggestion is to not let the music drown out the conversations.
