Grand Harbor Dim Sum & Seafood – Menu, prices, restaurant reviews
Reviews
With ample seating capacity, this establishment is an ideal venue for large groups or special occasions.
Despite securing a seat, we encountered a growing crowd and a queue upon our departure. The menu features a diverse selection of dim sum, specialty dishes, and authentic Cantonese cuisine. Notably, this restaurant has been reviewed by renowned celebrity chef Guy Fieri.
The prices are reasonable, and the food is consistently served hot and fresh. The noodle dish we ordered was particularly noteworthy.
Parking can be challenging, so it is advisable to arrive early.
Now for the downside — the service. Like many dim sum places, the service here isn’t great. The staff doesn’t really check on customers or make you feel taken care of, yet there seems to be an expectation of a standard 18% tip. I still left a tip as a courtesy to avoid any awkwardness, but honestly, with this level of service, it should be earned — not assumed.
The biggest issue happened when I was leaving. After I signed the check and got up from the table, a waiter — who wasn’t even my server — immediately came over to look at my receipt. I couldn’t tell whether he was checking the tip amount or verifying the paperwork. Then he chased after me, shouting “Hey! Hey! Hey!” and pointing at the receipt, saying something I couldn’t understand.
At first, I thought he was demanding more tip, and I was ready to respond. Then I realized I had accidentally taken the wrong copy of the receipt — the one I was supposed to sign was still on the table. Apparently, there are multiple copies, and it wasn’t clear which one needed a signature.
That said, the situation could have been handled much more professionally. A simple, “Excuse me, sir, you signed the wrong copy — could you please sign this one?” would have solved everything. Instead, there was no courtesy, no “thank you,” and no apology for the confusion.
The food and view initially made me want to come back, but that one rude interaction ruined the entire dining experience in less than a minute. Customer service matters. Tips are earned, not demanded. If you don’t provide decent service, you shouldn’t expect generous tipping.
We ordered a mix of classic dim sum dishes and found most everything to be lightly seasoned and lacking depth.
Siu mai skins were falling apart, and the pork filling, which contained shrimps, tobiko on top and coarsely ground pork, could have used some sweetness – 2.
Har gow skin was translucent and filled with perfectly steamed shrimps with a hint of ginger – 4.
Wu gok Taro turnovers were OK, but lacking punch – 3.
Gee cheung fun skin was silky soft, chopped char siu filling tasted a bit dry perhaps from the day before. Sauce was light and sweet – 3.5
Chicken feet were my favorite of the day with succulent flavor and easy to eat – 4.
Chow mein noodles were OK, with most of the noodles clumped together and drenched in the gravy, and just a few strands on the outer edges crispy – 3. The sauce was light, again lacking overall depth, but at least the sauce wasn’t oversalted. Shrimps, scallops and fish were cooked through just enough, so that they weren’t raw.
Dessert of Portuguese-style egg tarts were very delicious, flaky, and sweet – 5!
SERVICE 4
Our main server was very attentive, intuitive and responsive filling our teapot with hot water and clearing away empty steamer baskets etc.
Since we sat on the mid-tier floor away from the window, the server has to pull our orders from the carts on the main floor and bring them to our table.
ATMOSPHERE 4
Main floor seating is desired if you can get it. As other reviewers have mentioned, the ocean view and watching planes take off and land can be mesmerizing.
OVERALL 4
We visited on a Sunday at 10:45am and quickly got a 4-top for 3 just before all the crowds arrived. While I wasn’t impressed with the food (I found it quite pedestrian and ordinary, but the prices are reasonable for the quality), we did spend a pleasant 2 hours catching up with family, and at no time did we feel hurried or rushed. $80 before tip for 3 light eaters. I would return with non-fussy eaters.
This restaurant is big and is a good place for a big group or special celebrations.
The dishes that we had were good but there’s really nothing special. We had the combination seafood chow mien, garlic pea tips, salt and pepper pork, Mongolian beef and peking duck. They were pretty authentic. The service was great as we were given a pot of tea and a little bowl of peanuts as soon as we seated.
